Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood arguably has some of the most iconic villains in all of anime, otherwise known as the seven deadly sins. These Sins are homunculi, and are the embodiments of all of humanity’s vices. Because of this, they act very much in line with the sin that they are named after.

The homunculi can be cruel, funny, and genuinely scary, though some of them are generally viewed more highly than others. The Sins can be ranked based on how popular they are with viewers, how powerful they are, and just how cool they are to watch on screen.

7 Sloth

Since he is always so busy building the tunnels, Sloth suffers a little from not having nearly as much screentime as the other sins. He also doesn’t have much personality to him, since his main trait is being sluggish and tired all the time, therefore he doesn’t speak or do much either. This is obviously understandable, with him being the embodiment of Sloth, but it prevents the audience from really getting to know him as a character.

But ultimately, Sloth still manages to make his mark. He has a great catchphrase, that being “Such a pain,” and he has some epic battles with the Armstrong siblings. His design is also very imposing.

6 Gluttony

Gluttony is probably the most loveable Sin out of all the Homunculi, though he does have his scary moments, such as when his stomach opens into a portal. But it’s surprising how seemingly sweet he appears, considering that he is a villain.

He cares deeply about his fellow homunculi, and he creates touching friendships and solid brotherhood with all of them, especially Lust. He generally acts on what he thinks his siblings would want, leading to some epic fight scenes where he literally eats people alive. Though since he doesn’t really think for himself very often, he’s a little less intimidating than some other Sins.

5 Lust

It’s a massive shame that Lust was killed so early on in the show, as she was a great villain. She had awesome powers and was able to blend in with society and manipulate people, only to murder them in cold blood later on.

She takes on a lot of responsibility in the homunculi group as if she is the eldest sibling, and the others tend to follow her lead, making her an imposing figure. While it’s a shame that she died, her death scene with Roy Mustang is one of the most iconic scenes in the whole show, so at least she went out in style.

4 Wrath

Unlike many other Fullmetal Alchemist characters who grow through their character arcs, King Bradley goes from a somewhat quirky seeming Führer to revealing himself as the homunculus Wrath. While he doesn’t heal like the other Sins, he is arguably the best fighter out of all of them. He is easily able to overpower Greed in their first fight, and it takes a whole battalion to even slow him down.

He is incredibly ruthless, but what makes him interesting to watch is that he is more human than the other Sins, as he actually has a wife whom he does admit to caring about.

3 Envy

Envy is probably the cruelest and most vindictive out of all the sins. But despite being such a horrible person, they are often many people’s favorite character in the whole Fullmetal Alchemist series. They are incredibly fun to watch for just how evil they are, even when they kill major characters.

Envy’s power of shapeshifting is incredibly useful for the Homunculi’s plot, and the reveal of Envy’s true form, that being a giant green monster, leads to some of the most memorable fights in the whole series. One of these fights leads to Envy’s death, and their demise may actually be the saddest of them all.

2 Pride

Pride’s reveal is one of the biggest twists in the entire series, and even though he doesn’t get to show his true self as much as the other Homunculi, he easily earns his place as the most intimidating, despite appearing like a child most of the time.

Being the first homunculi to be born, he rules over the other Sins. He is so powerful and unmerciful that he even devours Gluttony in order to steal his powers. However, it is revealed that he cares for his fake mother, which leads to a somewhat wholesome demise for Pride, as he is turned back into a harmless child at the series’ end.

1 Greed

Greed is the only Sin that could be considered an anti-hero rather than a villain. He marks himself as a standout immediately, as when the audience first meets him he has been apart from the Homunculi for around 100 years. He is arrogant, selfish, and does awful things, but he is definitely the most likable and morally correct out of all the homunculi.

He even sacrifices himself at the end of the show in order to save Amestris, which many of the human Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood characters are legitimately heartbroken over. Especially Ling, as his and Greed’s relationship is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the whole anime.
