When it ended, Game of Thrones left a lot of questions unanswered and many plot threads unexplored. The Dothraki were among the groups of individuals who didn’t have a complete story once the credits had rolled on the finale of the HBO show.

The Dothraki were a major part of the first season, but as time went on the focus was less and less on this tribe of warriors and more on the ultimate goal of Dany capturing the Iron Throne. Here are 10 questions we still have about them.

10 WHO DO THEY NOW SERVE?

The Dothraki finally pledged themselves to Dany after a power struggle. They followed her into battle many times, and even crossed over to Westeros for her. Now that she is dead, who leads these warriors into their future?

There aren’t exactly many options and we haven’t been shown how their leadership currently works. It seems that Grey Worm could be a possible candidate, but there are so many Dothraki that it’s difficult to tell if they have any structure left.

9 WHERE WILL THEY GO?

The Dothraki are so very far from their home, and while they could get a ride with the Unsullied into the unknown, it’s likely they want to get back to their origins. However, doing this would be almost impossible on their own.

Since they’re seemingly stuck in Westeros, where will they go from here? It’s not like any of the Great Houses are going to take them in, and there’s not really a part of the land that isn’t owned by someone. They appear to be pretty stranded.

8 ARE THEY NO LONGER SCARED OF THE OCEAN?

The Dothraki had a long-held suspicion about the sea. They refused to cross it no matter what could have been on the other side. When the Targaryen regime finally took hold, they really had no choice but to follow orders.

They therefore got into the boats and set sail to Westeros. Does this mean that their fear is cured now? It’s a point that has seemingly been overlooked. The Dothraki may not want to get back on the sea after their ships were destroyed last time.

7 HAS THEIR CULTURE CHANGED?

The culture of the Dothraki is heavily featured throughout the first few series, but has this since changed? The culture is all about their traditions and their attitudes. Even their treatment of women must have changed due to being under Dany’s leadership.

Having said that, the Dothraki are still just as aggressive and ruthless. Perhaps they will revert back to their old ways when the time comes. But is the land they now find themselves in equipped for these foreign rituals and attitudes?

6 WHAT HAPPENED TO THOSE LEFT BEHIND?

Before Dany left for Westeros there were some Dothraki she left behind, lead by the talented Daario Naharis. Nobody knows what happened to them since, but the lands that the Mad Queen had conquered may not be staying that way much longer.

Perhaps the Dothraki saw an opportunity and took it, now ruling over the land once more. Or maybe they have no awareness that their Queen is dead, and are waiting for her signal to come and join them in victory.

5 WILL THEY BE GIVEN A KINGDOM?

Bran seems like a pretty generous King, and has tried to place people in their right lands and give everyone certain freedoms. But how will he feel about a barbaric group of traitors who could be a genuine danger to the country?

It’s likely they won’t be given their own small kingdom or any kind of land despite the fact Bran could do so. On the other hand, this may keep them quiet, so maybe a Dothraki house could be started to stop them causing trouble.

4 DO THEY LIKE WESTEROS?

We’ve previously mentioned how the Dothraki are now stranded in Westeros seemingly with no way back. They have followed someone else’s dream and are now in unfamiliar land with no knowledge of what to do next.

A very important question, therefore, is do they even like Westeros? Their homeland is so different that we wonder if they are even happy in this new, unpredictable and very political landscape, or if they’d prefer to be elsewhere.

3 HOW MANY ARE LEFT?

The Dothraki lost a significant portion of their ranks in the fight against the White Walkers. However, their numbers seemed to double again once they got to King’s Landing to fight for the Iron Throne.

It’s difficult to tell how many are actually left. We know there’s some overseas and some survived at King’s Landing too, but is their society more or less over, or are there enough of them to carry on into the future?

2 DO THEY WANT THE THRONE?

After all the fighting, all the loss and all the war, it’s surprising that the Dothraki don’t want to try to make a play for the throne. With Bran the Broken ruling over the various realms, is this their perfect chance?

Perhaps the Dothraki are actually a threat of the future that will resurface at some point to exact revenge and take what they think is theirs. On the other hand, they might be over all this Empire building.

1 ARE THEY PART OF HISTORY?

Tyrion learnt that the history books had been rewritten and that he had actually been left out of them. It makes us wonder whether the Dothraki are included in this work at all.

They were a large part of multiple battles, but their story probably wouldn’t be understood by the people of Westeros. It’s likely that they could have been completely left out despite the critical part they play in this narrative. That would be a large omission from history.
