Game Of Thrones might be well known for its array of impressive swords, but there are a variety of other dangerous weapons to hand in its many violent conflicts. These weapons are lethal when wielded by carefully trained warriors and have made a genuine impact on the unfolding events within Westeros itself.

While some weapons might be incredibly useful and destructive, others may have built a reputation from years of use. Natural elements and fantastical beasts such as Wildfire and Dragons are excluded here in favor of stone and steel.

Needle

Arya has proven herself to be an admirable hero with her trusty Needle by her side. It’s one of the most iconic weapons in Game Of Thrones history and the young Stark has dispatched numerous people from her infamous list using the streamlined blade, replacing the needlework that women should supposedly be partaking in.

Needle may not look like much, but in the hands of this seasoned fighter, it moves rapidly and goes by unnoticed, giving Arya the benefit of surprise. That’s the whole point of Needle, much like the character it represents the blade defies expectations. Arya’s dagger is also a noble weapon to pair it with though!

Joffrey’s Crossbow

For the cruel and vile Joffrey a weapon is all about how much damage it can deal out and the legacy it leaves behind. He has numerous options of what he could take into battle but it’s the Lannister Crossbow gifted to him that he kills with the most.

It’s a weapon that allows him to get his hands dirty while avoiding the threat of actual action. It was stolen and used by Tyrion to kill his father and eventually given to Bron to hunt down the Lannister brothers. Firing off multiple bolts at once, it’s both incredibly well designed in terms of its practicality and its visuals.

Scorpions

How can anyone wage war with the mighty Dragon? Well, King’s Landing seemingly had the answer with the creation of the Scorpions. These were massive artillery-based weapons of impressive strength and range. They shot off bolts fit for the murder of a fantastical creature.

They move efficiently and are relatively easy to aim with, ultimately helping to bring down some of the Queen of Dragons’ children. While the bolts don’t always have a lasting impact, at the very least they can significantly injure the winged beasts. The only downside is they appeared to be less effective as the show progressed.

War Hammer

The war hammer is the weapon of choice for the Baratheons and indeed the object that Robert ultimately used to win the throne with. His son, Gendry, unknowingly picked up the same trait, first working as a blacksmith before deciding he would use such a violent weapon amid combat.

The return of the bastard son led to his use of a war hammer that slaughtered dozens of White Walkers, as the wrath of the Baratheon household sent its full force against the Night King’s legion. A war hammer is only suitable for those strong enough to wield it, but it’s inspiring in its capabilities; no doubt that Gendry’s hammer will build its legacy.

Red Viper’s Spear

The Red Viper’s Spear packs more of a punch than the average long-ranged weapon. Oberyn Martell demonstrated just what this kind of weapon was capable of, essentially besting the Mountain in single combat. It’s a weapon of great accuracy and speed and is incredibly difficult to defend against.

What’s more, the tip is laced with poison meaning one scratch will result in a sure death, no matter how the rest of the battle will turn out. It takes such skill to be able to use this kind of object and it may not be as useful in a full-scale war, but Martell made it look easy!

Ice

Ice was the first weapon that carried a weight to it in Game Of Thrones. Ned Stark wielded the blade with authority and it became a symbol of respect and power. It was used as a device for execution acting as judge and jury, but it also helped to win the Iron Throne.

Ice didn’t last long within Westeros in regards to screentime as the Valyrian Steel was melted down after the death of the head of House Stark. Its legacy lives on in a variety of other blades, although none can quite carry the same history as Ice, a longsword that took great strength to use correctly.

Sand Snakes’ Whip

The Sand Snakes have a variety of weapons amongst them, but the whip employed by the sisters is perhaps the most lethal. Of course, it stings, but much like elsewhere in the action-adventure and fantasy genres, a whip can have more than one use.

It might be used to grab onto someone, as a device to climb with or swing on, and could even be used to disarm an opponent in the right circumstances. It’s a weapon that’s wielded very little within Game Of Thrones, which is why it’s so unexpected to see it used with such ferocity and ability.

Arakh

An Arakh is a curved blade often found amongst the Dothraki. It cuts effortlessly and is difficult to defend against. It’s the shape of the weapon that makes it dangerous, as it runs along the edge of straight blades, hacking into the opponent immediately.

Lighter and therefore faster, there’s a reason that the Dothraki have seen so much success with the Arakh and why several sellswords have started using one of their own as well. The weapon hasn’t fully integrated itself into Westeros culture though meaning it’s a blade that few can truly prepare for.

Ice Daggers

There are so many unanswered questions about the White Walkers, but fans are well-aware of their weapon of choice. It appears they all use a form of ice sword or ice dagger, that feels as if it cannot be broken. These mystical weapons are a threat to any human blade.

Of course, Dragonglass can help to cut through these dangerous shards, but their magical properties have helped to create an army of the undead. They are far more than an average weapon therefore and it appears that no man can wield this horrific blade.

Longclaw

Longclaw is easily the most famed weapon from the series. As the blade of Jon Snow, it was gifted to him from the Old Bear for his valiant efforts within the Night’s Watch. It’s a formidable blade with a storied history and its steel can cut through anything.

The end of the sword is adorned with a wolf, noting Snow’s link to the Stark household. However, the King in the North’s sword is very much befitting of royalty and has won countless battles and grim wars. It’s the sword that everyone wants to own and is easily one of the best in the show.
