Although Genshin Impact 2.1 is releasing this week, developer miHoYo appears to already be teasing content from the 2.2 update. This latest official tease comes via new images and info regarding Thoma, who is now seemingly confirmed for Genshin Impact 2.2. For those eager to learn more about him, here’s what miHoYo has revealed so far.

Thoma was first leaked online as “Tohma,” a new Inazuma character, months before Inazuma had even been officially confirmed for the 2.0 update. Alongside Thoma were characters like Gorou, Baal, and Kokomi. And while Gorou has yet to be confirmed for any update right now, Baal and Kokomi are both new playable characters in Genshin Impact 2.1. So, it was only a matter of time before Thoma was added into the game as well.

As usual, miHoYo stopped just short of outright announcing Thoma for Version 2.2. However, given the previous early reveals of Genshin Impact characters on Twitter for the last two updates, it’s all but guaranteed that Thoma is now confirmed for the 2.2 content. Thoma is expected to be a 4-star character, which should make acquiring him through the Wish system fairly easy (especially with a boosted pull rate on his own Banner).

Why Genshin Impact’s Thoma Is Most Likely Playable In Version 2.2

Thoma has already been featured in the Inazuma content for Genshin Impact, where he’s quickly become a fan-favorite despite being only an NPC right now. He is a polearm user with the Pyro Vision, and it remains to be seen just how useful he’ll actually be. Pyro users are already a crowded group in the game, and Hu Tao is an excellent polearm and Pyro character already. So, despite being a new favorite character from Inazuma, Thoma’s role in players’ parties seems somewhat underwhelming for now.

It’s unlikely he’ll replace any of the best Pyro users – like Hu Tao, Diluc, and Klee – although he may make a great addition for players who lack any decent Pyro characters. Perhaps even more interesting is that Gorou seems to be confirmed for Genshin Impact 2.2, since a quote from him is used in the tweet announcing Thoma. So far, though, miHoYo hasn’t shared more official images or details for Gorou. The tweet can be viewed below:

For now, this means Thoma is the only new playable character seemingly confirmed for Genshin Impact Version 2.2. However, it’s likely that more characters will be featured on Banners over the course of the content, since miHoYo rarely only releases a single new character during a major update. This means more new characters, perhaps even Gorou, will likely be revealed as Version 2.2’s release approaches in October.
