Qingyun Peak, a popular location among Genshin Impact players, will have a unique look for PS5 players when the console’s upgrade arrives on April 28. The update for the open-world adventure game will allow Genshin Impact to take advantage of the current-gen console’s hardware, getting the console experience more in line with PC with updated textures, faster load times, and increased level of detail at greater distances. This update releases the same day as the 1.5 update, which adds characters Eula and Yanfei, as well as new weapons, monsters, and more.

Genshin Impact was one of 2020’s breakout titles, and its momentum doesn’t seem to have slowed in 2021. However, as the game continues to grow, criticisms are being levied against it. Recent criticisms call out the offensive appearance of Hillichurls, one of the game’s enemies, over their alleged resemblance to indigenous groups. Other controversies have also arisen, with some online claiming that game perpetuates other harmful stereotypes and whitewashes with its dark-skinned characters.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

MiHoYo technical director Zhenzhong Yi detailed the changes coming to Genshin Impact on April 28 in a PlayStation Blog post. Graphically, the PS5 will run the game at a native 4K resolution and will have a custom graphics library and file-loading system to effectively utilize its proprietary SSD. Future updates will further upgrade and optimize textures and features for PS5, including full utilization of the DualSense controller. Furthermore, fan-favorite location Qingyun Peak will be getting a facelift of sorts only available for the PS5 version of the game. What changes are coming to the location are for players to discover when the update launches, but a preview of the location is shown in a new PS5 gameplay trailer.

Exclusive content for platforms typically features costumes or bonus missions, but a specific version of a particular location in a game is a unique incentive. While the change in scenery likely won’t impact gameplay based on what little miHoYo revealed on the matter, a feature like this is an interesting power play by Sony. If the company is looking to showcase what the PS5 can do for multiplatform games, using one of the most popular games of the day is not a bad idea. It would be a fair assumption that more locations could see similar changes in the future, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

The question now is whether Sony and developer miHoYo have any more plans for current-gen exclusive content in Genshin Impact. PS4 players had a chance to obtain the exclusive Sword of Descension and Wings of Descension during its launch on the system last year, so it wouldn’t be strange for more exclusive bonuses to appear on PS5. However, with many people still have difficulties securing the console, miHoYo may want to wait a bit longer for more units to get in the hands of players before releasing any more content – at least for the time being.

Genshin Impactis available on PS4, PS5, PC, Android, and iOS.
