Since its initial release last year, Genshin Impact has continued getting regular updates and adding in new playable characters. While Eula is being added to the 1.5 content soon, even more characters are rumored for Version 1.6. However, so far, Guuji Yae hasn’t been mentioned in-game or by developer miHoYo for some time. So, is Guuji Yae still coming to Genshin Impact, and will she be playable?

More attention was put on Guuji Yae recently, when fans noticed a mysterious new character appearing in the official 1.5 livestream. Based on her character design, some fans speculated it was Yae Sakura from Honkai Impact 3rd, another RPG from miHoYo. However, this new character doesn’t look quite like Yae Sakura either. But, because of the similar names, fans were quick to point out that another character with Yae in their name was mentioned on the official Genshin Impact Twitter account for New Year’s Day in 2020: Guuji Yae.

According to Genshin Impact on Twitter, Guuji Yae is welcoming Ayaka Kamisato to her shrine. Although heavily rumored for multiple updates, Ayaka may finally be playable in Version 1.6, if leaks are to be believed. Because of her connections to Guuji Yae, this could mean both characters will be appearing in the next update.

Genshin Impact’s Guuji Yae & Ayaka Connections Explained

So far, miHoYo has yet to officially confirm Ayaka as a playable character in the Genshin Impact 1.6 content. After appearing in beta tests prior to the game’s full launch, Ayaka still hasn’t even appeared as an NPC. Because of this, it could mean players will have to wait a bit longer to actually have her join their teams and to be featured as a Banner character.

This, of course, leads directly to Guuji Yae. Because the characters are connected in some way, it’s possible they may release around the same time. It’s believed that Guuji Yae has connections to Baal, the Inazuma Archon. So, if Inazuma is indeed added in the Version 1.6 update, then Guuji Yae may at least be featured as an NPC.  Right now, it’s still a bit too early to tell.

Still, it’s odd that artwork of Guuji Yae was shared from the official Genshin Impact Twitter account, and has since been all but forgotten by miHoYo. It’s possible the character was redesigned and renamed, or perhaps her costume was altered and she’s the same mysterious character from the 1.5 livestream. Or, maybe Guuji Yae will be a new character when Genshin Impact 1.6 arrives next month – and perhaps even become playable.
