During the Version 2.6 livestream, Genshin Impact announced the “Spices From the West” event featuring a researcher from the new region Sumeru, leaving fans wondering who this character from Sumeru could be. The researcher has traveled from Sumeru to Liyue to conduct research on spices. During the event, players will cook dishes for the Companions in their Serenitea Pot, earning them Companionship EXP. As Sumeru isn’t expected to be released until Summer 2022 in 3.0, fans were intrigued by the upcoming event and who the mysterious character from Sumeru could be.

Sumeru, one of the seven regions in Teyvat, is Genshin Impact’s Dendro region, expected to become released to players later this year. Currently, there are no Dendro playable characters in Genshin Impact, although Baizhu and Yaoyao are expected to become playable later this year. Although their elemental mastery is Dendro, Baizhu, and Yaoyao in Genshin Impact hail from the Liyue region, not Sumeru, meaning that Sumeru’s playable characters still remain a mystery. However, Spices From The West’s Sumeru character could be an NPC from Sumeru, a few of which have already been introduced to Genshin Impact players.

One NPC, in particular, stands out as a likely choice for the “Spices From The West” event. Parvaneh, is an NPC in Inazuma who hails from Sumeru. Along with fellow NPCs Julie and Xudong she makes up a trio, known as The Gourmet Supremos, who seek to further their culinary knowledge. Parvaneh is a student of the Sumeru Academia, often consulting its field guide for information on cooking dishes. The Gourmet Supremos appear in several World Quests in Genshin Impact, as well as a culinary quiz in the form of a Daily Commission.

Genshin Impact 2.6 Livestream Reveals Spices From The West Event

Parvaneh’s gourmet background and thirst for culinary knowledge fit the description of the researcher from Sumeru featured in the Spices From The West Event. Furthermore, Genshin Impact’s 2.6 livestream confirmed the researcher is “a certain lady”, while also confirming the 2.6 update’s focus on Inazuma, specifically siblings Kamisato Ayaka and Ayato. Parvaneh hails from Sumeru but is currently found in Inazuma. However, it’s possible the researcher in question is an entirely new character since it states the character is coming to Liyue from Sumeru.

However, it’s possible it could introduce a new character from Sumeru in Genshin Impact, similar to how Inazuma characters were teased before 2.0, even though it may draw the focus away from the new playable character Kamisato Ayato’s long-awaited release. Yaoyao is a chef who lives in Liyue – and is a Dendro character – so it’s possible this character will be Yaoyao, teasing Sumeru ahead of the 3.0 update. Although unlikely, it could even be Kusanali, the Dendro Archon of Sumeru.

Genshin Impact players won’t have to wait much longer to experience the 2.6 update, as it’s expected to release on March 30. Upon release, Spices From The West’s researcher from Sumeru will be revealed, putting an end to speculation as to who it might be. Some players remain hopeful that the Event’s character will be an introduction to Sumeru’s first playable character. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that the first playable character from the upcoming Sumeru region would have managed to remain anonymous for so long, evading Genshin Impact’s many and frequent leaks.
