The new Genshin Impact Version 1.1 is live, and it brings with it some character banners fans have been excited for, adding Zhongli, Childe, Xinyan, and Diona to the game’s roster of playable characters. Genshin Impact, from develop miHoYo, took the gaming world by storm earlier this year with a sparkling release on mobile, PC, and PS4, successfully mixing the exploration elements that made The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild so popular with Fate/Grand Order‘s anime aesthetic gacha gameplay loop.

For those unfamiliar with what gacha elements actually are, Genshin Impact features a rolling system that sees players spend rare currency in an attempt to “pull” a character out of a randomized system. The odds of pulling desired characters is fairly low, but Genshin Impact also doesn’t charge much for its premium currency and is fairly generous in giving it out by just playing the game, so it hasn’t been the barrier to entry that gacha systems often are for interested mobile players. That, combined with how effective many free-to-play Genshin Impact units are, makes for a gameplay experience that’s both compelling and avoids punishing players who don’t have hundreds of dollars to sink into each new powerful character – though the game has plenty of those, and more have arrived in Genshin Impact update 1.1.

Jason Chuang, brand manager at miHoYo, took to the PlayStation blog to announce that Genshin Impact Version 1.1 update is officially live. The post takes time to highlight the many characters that have arrived in the game, with Genshin Impact‘s Zhongli, Childe, Xinyan, and Diona all coming to the game with the update. Zhongli, a character many fans are excited about due to his aesthetic alone, is a Geo unit that can summon a meteor that smashes opponents and petrifies them. It’s a gorgeous attack, and one that might compel more than a few fans to open their wallets in an attempt to acquire him.

The other major standout is likely Childe, a flexible Hydro character that can summon weapons that let him battle at both close- and long-range. That skillset and flexibility will make him desirable for a great deal of team compositions moving forward, at least before he’s fully figured out. On top of the Genshin Impact Version 1.1 update’s character additions, the content will also add story progression through Liyue Harbor, as well as new exploration and reputation features and new events.

Despite flirting with some major issues with the Genshin Impact security breach recently, discussion surrounding the game remains largely positive. We’ll see if that continues after players begin missing rolls on characters they want in Genshin Impact Version 1.1 update, but for now, excitement is high and team compositions are being theorycrafted as miHoYo’s incredibly popular open-world RPG barrels forward with a major content addition.
