The latest update for Genshin Impact, 1.3, brought a slew of changes, events, and new content for players to enjoy. However, one of the most notable patch notes involved Zhongli, the 5-star Geo character who received backlash when he made his initial debut in version 1.1. The latest patch fixes a lot of the problems with the character, giving Zhongli several buffs. However, players who don’t have Zhongli shouldn’t feel left out, since Genshin Impact update 1.3 not only gave Zhongli a power boost but also the entire Geo element as a whole.

Prior to update 1.3, the Geo element didn’t offer much. It was primarily focused on defensive play, emphasizing the use of shields. Characters that were a part of this element, such as Noelle and the Geo-aligned Traveler, reflected this, since their combat was focused on generating crystal shards for shields through the Crystalize reaction or creating rock structures to provide extra cover. In short, Geo was severely outclassed by other elements that provided more buffs and reactions that increase damage output.

With Genshin Impact‘s new update, Geo received a facelift that makes the element more useful in combat. While Zhongli definitely benefited the most from the update, other characters of the Geo element also gained more utility. Players who’ve had Geo characters sitting on the sidelines may now be able to finally use them more effectively when building a Genshin Impact team.

How Players Can Use Genshin Impact’s Geo Buffs To Their Advantage

Prior to Genshin Impact update 1.3, Geo’s Elemental Resonance only offered a 15% increase in damage to a character who was protected by a shield. Now, according to Mihoyo’s patch notes, it provides a 15% increase in shield strength, in addition to that original 15% damage increase. Furthermore, enemies hit by shielded characters will now have their Geo resistance decreased by 20% for 15 seconds. So, by having two Geo characters on their team and a shield up, players can use this updated Elemental Resonance to increase their survivability and also deal more Geo damage.

Update 1.3 also changed how Genshin Impact‘s Geo shields work. Prior to the patch, shields only offered a 250% Geo damage absorption, but they now absorb 150% physical damage and 150% elemental damage, all around. This means Geo characters like Noelle that focus on generating shields are more useful, since shields now protect more against attacks other than Geo. Players who have been struggling with bosses or the Spiral Abyss can now use shields to help give them a more defensive edge in battle.

Now that the Geo element in Genshin Impact has received a massive buff, there is a little more room for experimentation with the element. Players who weren’t lucky enough to get Zhongli during the 1.1 update should no longer feel left out, since other Geo characters are now arguably just as useful as the 5-star Zhongli character himself.
