As the closest thing to endgame content Genshin Impact has, the Spiral Abyss could use a refresher to keep it interesting. The Spiral Abyss is a great place for players to challenge themselves and test out their character builds. The problem is that its formula is very repetitive and basic, which prevents it from being truly challenging and entertaining. One of the recent events in Genshin Impact, Labyrinth Warriors, sets a good example as to how the Spiral Abyss could be updated to make it truly fun endgame content.

Even though Genshin Impact’s Spiral Abyss resets twice a month, the gameplay itself stays very much the same. New challenges and enemies can be fun, but those that have been playing Genshin Impact for a year now may find that they don’t have much of challenge at all. And considering the Spiral Abyss has 12 floors, it’s a little odd that only four of them get these resets. As of now, the Spiral Abyss just isn’t that interesting, but there are some things that can be changed to make it a truly great part of the game.

During the Labyrinth Warriors event, players navigated their way through a series of hallways and chambers fighting enemies, avoiding, traps, and finding treasure. The Spiral Abyss also has floors and chambers, but players are essentially in the same room the whole time, and the only objective is to defeat the enemies within the time limit. It would be interesting to combine the two. Each floor could have a series of chambers, like in Genshin Impact’s Labyrinth Warriors event, with each floor getting more and more challenging as they go. Instead of deciding when each fight starts, the enemies could randomly spawn in different chambers to keep players on their toes. It would add a considerable amount of needed variety and keep players invested.

Genshin Impact’s Spiral Abyss Should Be More Like Labyrinth Warriors

Also with Labyrinth Warriors, there could be new objectives and challenges add to the Spiral Abyss beyond simply defeating enemies. One such challenge could be to complete each floor with different elements. For instance, for one play through, the objective would be to use all Genshin Impact’s Electro characters, and the next play through it would be to use two Pyro characters and two Hydro characters, each run providing its own rewards. This would encourage players to build more characters and give them a reason to actually use them. Other challenges could include things like defeating enemies a certain amount of times (i.e. defeat 50 Cicin Mages), using 4 bursts within 10 seconds 5 times, etc.

The Spiral Abyss should also utilize every floor instead of just the final 4. Every reset should include the first 8 floors, which would simply provide more content. The rising difficulty level could still exist but go beyond what is currently available to provide even more difficult floors for those with powerful teams. The higher-level floors could also be open to cooperative play to make that challenge more manageable while also providing players with more multiplayer opportunities.

The final aspect of Genshin Impact’s Spiral Abyss that needs updating are the rewards. Genshin Impact is notoriously stingy when it comes to rewarding players, and the current Spiral Abyss is no exception. While the first 8 floors give players 2400 Primogems total, only 600 Primogems are given for the 4 hardest floors. Not only does that not make sense, as the final 4 floors give fewer per floor (only 150 instead of 300), it doesn’t provide much of an incentive to complete them. To combat this, every floor should provide 300 Primogems every reset. In addition, to the current rewards of Weapon Ascension Materials, Level up Materials, artifacts, and Mora, each floor should also give a certain amount of Condensed Resin or a special Abyss version of Resin. Once a month, the higher level floors could even give a character as a reward.

The Spiral Abyss as it is now is wasting a lot of potential. While the whole model doesn’t need to be thrown out, Genshin Impact has proven that there are ways to make it far more engaging with events like Labyrinth Warriors. Considering this game is meant to continue for many years to come, the Spiral Abyss should be able to do the same.
