Gillian Jacobs has been cast in the lead role in Transatlantic, a new World War II series from Netflix. The actor has done well since her breakout role on NBC’s hit comedy Community, which ran for six seasons from 2009 to 2014. She has since had prominent roles in many projects such as the Netflix romantic comedy Ibiza, the Melissa McCarthy-led film Life of the Party, and the popular Netflix horror trilogy Fear Street.

Variety reports that Gillian Jacobs has been cast in Netflix’s upcoming World War II historical drama series Transatlantic. The series is inspired by The Flight Portfolio, a 2019 historical fiction novel by Julie Orringer about the true actions of the Emergency Rescue Committee (ERC) led by the courageous American journalist Varian Fry. Fry and the ERC forged documents and helped over 2,000 European refugees escape Nazi-occupied France over a period of 13 months between 1940 and 1941.
