Even though it premiered over two decades ago, Gilmore Girls viewers love the show like Lorelai loves coffee. From myriad rewatches to sharing theories and memes on Reddit, fans are hungry for all things Gilmore.

Now, they can get an in-depth look behind the scenes of the show by listening to “I Am All In,” a new podcast produced by and starring Scott Patterson, who plays Luke Danes on the show. In addition to Patterson, a fan favorite, the podcast also brings in many former Gilmore Girls cast and crew members and there are some amazing discussions between the stars, and some standout episodes to listen to.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

“Red Meat Can Kill You, Enjoy” (May 3, 2021)

This episode is the first of the entire podcast, so for that alone, it’s worth a listen. As an added bonus, Patterson has his very first guest on the show, Yanic Truesdale, who played Michel Gerard. It’s always so interesting to see how different an actor can be from the character they play, and that’s definitely the case with Truesdale, as Michel is a Gilmore Girls side character with main character energy.

Patterson and Truesdale recount how they both booked Gilmore Girls and Truesdale shares that he was “discovered” by a future agent when he was visiting a friend on a different set. Patterson talks about how Luke was only supposed to be around as a small role, but that he could tell they were “chemistry testing” him and Lauren Graham in the first and last scenes of the pilot.

“Interesting Hat” (May 17, 2021)

Played by Sean Gunn, Kirk is one of the most iconic television show side characters. His quirky personality and all of the strange things about the Gilmore Girls character provided infinite laughs for fans, and listeners get to hear the ins and outs of his genesis on the show when he comes onto the podcast as a guest in this episode.

Gunn tells Patterson that he initially thought nothing of his time on Gilmore Girls because the role was so small. But when the show kept trying to cast characters “just like” him with no success, they continued to bring him back on as a running gag and ode to Amy Sherman-Palladino’s father, who played a similar role in his own acting career. As a fun fact, Gunn reveals that Kirk’s first appearance on the show was as “Mick,” but the writers forgot that they had already named him.

“One-On-One: Scott Cohen” (June 11, 2021)

Max Medina and Luke Danes are two of the most beloved men in Lorelai Gilmore’s life. Patterson has a joking rivalry with the character of Max Medina because he was Lorelai’s first real love interest on the show and some Redditors think Max was better for Lorelai than Luke, so it’s really entertaining to listen to them interact and talk about their time with Graham.

Patterson even pokes fun at Medina’s interactions with Lorelai, saying that Cohen was always touching her arms and grazing her elbow in all of their scenes. Cohen, who hasn’t watched any of his episodes in 20 years, laughs along with the observation, chalking it up to Medina “going for it.”

“Don’t Sit On Any Cold Benches Part 2” (June 25, 2021)

Who would have guessed that Patterson is a Dean hater? Many listeners and long-time fans of the show may be surprised to find out that the actor doesn’t even attempt to hold back his distaste for Rory’s first boyfriend, and goes into a lot of detail talking about how Dean is a toxic match for Rory.

In Patterson’s own words, Dean isn’t a “suitable boy for Rory.” This is a super fun episode because it taps into the fan side of the show and the endless conversations they all have about who was the best out of Rory’s three major boyfriends on the show. Patterson’s stance is fitting, as Luke wasn’t exactly the biggest Dean fan either.

“Come On In, I’ll Get You Some Coffee Therapy Session” (July 5, 2021)

While fans like to think about all of the problematic things that Lorelai does or says and critique her and Emily’s relationship, they sometimes fail to think about the psychological implications of what Lorelai went through in her childhood and how that might inform her behavior later on in life.

Patterson, however, brings on a therapist named Kim and they discuss the characters’ motivations in some of their more questionable moments. It’s a level of complex analysis that will be appreciated by hardcore GG fans.

“I Know… Let’s Go” (July 10, 2021)

Patterson analyzes the relationship between Emily and Luke, two characters who are from different worlds. Controversially, Patterson thinks that Emily likes Luke and that Luke likes Emily. He thinks that they understand each other well and he is kind to her even though she can come off as aggressive and tends to overstep boundaries in Gilmore Girls.

Another thing Patterson discusses in this episode is how evident Luke and Lorelai’s connection was, even early on in the show, and how Luke dropped everything for Lorelai at the drop of a hat and was truly there for Lorelai in a way that only soulmates are. As one of TV’s favorite couples, it’s a heartwarming episode.

“Question Everything” (August 6, 2021)

This episode has a different formula than the rest because Patterson was on the road and held a meet-and-greet and panel with Gilmore Girls fans in Uncasville, Connecticut. Instead of deep-diving into the next Gilmore Girls episode, the podcast consisted of questions from fans and discussion.

This is a much more unique format for a podcast and has a great effect. It feels as though the listener is there with the other fans, and many of the questions were thoughtful and interesting.

“Where You Lead” (August 13, 2021)

If fans thought it was very cool and kind that Patterson included fans in the meet-and-greet event, they will absolutely love this heartwarming one. For this episode, Patterson asked fan Maya to join him remotely from Children’s Hospital Colorado, where she is a patient and, fantastically, a show host, herself.

Maya is a huge fan of Gilmore Girls, so when she reached out to Patterson’s show, they decided to have a collaborative episode. Patterson not only promotes Maya’s show, but he is also incredibly sweet to her and insists on asking her questions about herself before she interviews him. It truly shows how much of a genuinely kind person Patterson is.

“Luke And Jess. Scott And Milo. Reunited And It Feels So Good” (September 15, 2021)

Jess is definitely a favorite Rory boyfriend, and many fans think that there were some times that Jess and Luke’s relationship was better than Lorelai and Rory’s. As uncle and nephew on the show, it was great to see the two actors interacting again and reliving their most iconic scenes together and their acting methodology in general.

It’s so clear that the two actors see each other as family and they developed a close bond while filming the show; Patterson had nothing but glowing praise for Milo Ventimiglia. Ironically enough, Ventimiglia shares that Patterson and himself are actually almost completely opposite to Jess and Luke — they constantly chatted when not in character.

“Friendsgiving” (November 26, 2021)

This is an awesome episode for huge fans of Gilmore Girls because of the sheer number of guests that Patterson features on the podcast. He invited Jackson Douglas (Jackson), Sally Struthers(Babette), Emily Kuroda (Mrs. Kim), and even Grant-Lee Phillips (the iconic town troubadour).

Having this many familiar voices together in an episode will almost remind fans of a Stars Hollow town meeting, and the actors talk about their favorite memories on set together and their experiences working with Graham and Melissa McCarthy, specifically. They even reveal some embarrassing moments from different episodes on the show — including Douglas’s fakeout on his first onscreen kiss.
