Emily Gilmore is the most poised and put-together character on Gilmore Girls. She has her freak-outs, of course, but she knows how to contain herself and put on a show when in the public eye. Part of her image is in how she dresses, and Emily never disappoints. She rarely repeats an outfit but has outfits that are very similar to each other.

Emily adores skirt suits, delicate jewelry, and heels, and it doesn’t matter what the occasion is, she is always dressed to perfection. And over the course of seven seasons and a reboot (Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life), Emily has had a handful of eye-popping outfits that stand out above the rest.

10 Her Vow Renewal Dress

In “Wedding Bell Blues,” Emily and Richard were ready to put their differences behind them and start fresh with a sweet vow renewal to celebrate their 30 years of marriage. Emily was as nervous as the first time she married Richard, which was precious to see.

Instead of a typical wedding gown, Emily chose something sensible: a beautiful sparkly silver suit and a diamond statement necklace. The dress continued with her typical style, but the sparkles separated her from everyone else.

9 Looking Great In Red

Lorelai and Emily have had their battles where they each felt they were right and the other was wrong, but they came together as a team in “Like Mother, Like Daughter.” There was a charity fashion show at the Independence Inn and Lorelai had to strut down the runway next to her mother.

Both women wore red blazers, but fans hardly ever see Emily in this shade of red. It matched her lipstick and gold jewelry perfectly. With such a big personality, Emily should have worn red more often.

8 With Her Hair Down In A Year In The Life

In the reboot, A Year in the Life, Emily faced new, realistic storylines that forced her into a new chapter of her life. Her husband had passed, Lorelai and Luke were in their own bubble, and she was alone. It wasn’t until she sold the house that she shared with Richard for 40+ years that she was able to find herself again.

This new version of Emily included a more relaxed sense of style that fans adored. Emily wore jeans, sweet cardigans with t-shirts underneath, and swapped her heels for sneakers! For the first time, Emily seemed comfortable.

7 Her Pink & Gold Suit

In “How Many Kropogs To Cape Cod?” Emily was excited to have Logan Huntzberger over for dinner for the first time. But with fans so nervous about how Emily and Lorelai were going to act at dinner with Logan, they didn’t even notice how stunning Emily looked for the event.

Wearing a pink blazer and black skirt, Emily’s hair was perfectly styled to showcase the details in her blazer and jewelry. The gold necklace she wore was big enough to let the gold stitching in her top shine as well.

6 In Brown & Gold At Rory’s Coming Of Age Ceremony

In “Presenting Lorelai Gilmore,” Emily was having her own issues with Richard but was hoping to put their differences aside for Rory’s coming out party (also known as a debutante ball). Although Richard and Emily are a Gilmore Girls fan-favorite couple, these two ruined the event with their bickering.

It was a shame they were arguing so much because Emily looked stunning in this brown, floor-length gown. Like her vow renewal dress, the sparkles in fabric made her dress understated but classy.

5 Her Understated Tracksuit

Emily, Lorelai, and Rory went through a hard time in “I’d Rather Be in Philadelphia” when Richard had another heart episode and landed in the hospital. Emily was so shocked by the sudden event that she didn’t even have time to change out of her sweats.

While Lorelai saw that a breakup was coming between her and Christopher, Emily was running around like a chicken with her head cut off in a tracksuit. However, Emily managed to make this tracksuit fashionable. With her hair and makeup done but still looking casual, Emily looked relaxed and approachable for once. While she may have thought this was her worst look, it’s one of her best because it was a new side to Emily that fans never saw.

4 Her Knit Turtleneck And Cardigan

Emily didn’t wear turtlenecks often and it’s a shame that she didn’t. Fans saw her in a beige turtleneck and unbuttoned cardigan in “Face-Off.”

She arrived at the Independence Inn to vent to Lorelai about Trix being in her house. She said that Trix scolded her to get out of the house because she was constantly in the way (an off-screen event that fans wished they were able to see). And while Emily was upset and nervous, she looked amazing in this combination.

3 Charming In Green On Green

Emily didn’t wear this shade of green often, which is why it popped so much on-screen. She wore this ensemble in “The Other Lorelai” when she found out her mother-in-law was coming to visit for a few days.

The two never got along and Emily had been hiding Trix’s gifts for years. She scrambled to get everything together while still in her dinner ensemble. The design of the jacket is perfect with its white trim that shows the separation between the skirt and the jacket.

2 Born To Be In Plaid

There’s something incredibly fitting about seeing Emily in plaid. Just as the case with turtlenecks and the color red, plaid also matches her personality.

In “Dear Emily and Richard,” the episode takes fans on a trip back in time. The flashbacks showed Lorelai finding out she’s pregnant, her parents arguing over it, and Lorelai running away. Lorelai acted immaturely when she left nothing but a note after running away with her one-year-old, and she tried making up for it as an adult. At the end of the episode, Emily welcomes Lorelai over and is wearing a plaid button-up and black trousers. The neckline and length of this plaid getup look perfect on her.

1 Relaxed In Burberry

Richard and Emily had some of the best chemistry throughout Gilmore Girls. There was nothing they wouldn’t have done for each other, which is why Emily planned a big 60th birthday party for him in “That’ll Do Pig.”

As Emily calls Lorelai to remind her about the party, she’s wearing a gorgeous Burberry cardigan — longer than most of her sweaters — and a relaxed shirt underneath. With her hair in a low bun, the sweater really shined on-screen and she looked both sophisticated and relaxed.
