Lorelai “Trix” Gilmore was first introduced in season 1’s “The Third Lorelai.” It was then that Gilmore Girls fans found out that Emily Gilmore wasn’t invincible; there was one woman she feared and it was Richard’s mother. Trix lived in London for over 20 years but wanted to move back home to Connecticut towards the end of her life due to her failing health.

Richard loved his mother dearly but Emily loathed the mere thought of her. Trix never thought Emily was good enough for Richard and often made her feel less than. Eventually, Trix passed and the Gilmores grieved in very different ways. But after seven seasons and a reboot, Trix’s life is often forgotten.

10 She Married In The Family

When Trix passed away, Emily took charge of preparing her specific funeral instructions. Lorelai tried helping but admitted she didn’t know much about “Gran.” She asked Emily what gran’s maiden name was and Emily said it was Gilmore.

As it turned out, Trix married her second cousin, Charles Abbot Gilmore, to keep the bloodlines strong. Lorelai was disturbed to the core and wondered if there was a genetic disorder somewhere in the family.

9 She Left Rory A Trust Fund

Trix is beside herself when she finds out Lorelai borrowed money from Richard and Emily. She thought borrowing money was bad business. Instead of Lorelai paying her parents back, Trix reminded her that she created a trust fund for Rory in the past and she was willing to give Lorelai the money before Rory turned 25.

Richard brings up Rory’s trust fund again in the sixth season but it seems odd that it wasn’t discussed in A Year in the Life. Rory was in her 30s in the reboot, which means she would have had access to her trust fund by then. How was she short on money if that was the case?

8 Emily Loathed That Trix Liked Lorelai

Shockingly, as cruel as Trix was to Emily, she adored Lorelai (and by extension, Rory). Trix was quite impressed by Lorelai’s independence and caught on to her witty sense of humor. Even though Lorelai didn’t spend much time with Trix or pay her much attention, Trix respected her. It was refreshing to see a member of the Gilmore family favor Lorelai regardless of her life choices instead of treating her like the black sheep of the family.

7 All In The Family

Richard got the phone call that his mother passed away in the fourth season. He was beside himself because their last conversation wasn’t exactly kind. The two were angry with each other, leaving Richard feeling like an awful son.

It was said that Trix died of a heart attack, which is ironic because Richard also died of heart problems years later. If heart problems run in the family, Lorelai and Rory should probably cut back on their takeout orders.

6 A Well-Educated Woman

When Trix passed away, Rory realized she didn’t know anything about her great grandmother. With Trix living in London for over two decades, they didn’t spend time together until Rory was in high school.

As a way to become more familiar with her departed grandmother, Rory volunteered to write her obituary. She used a few databases at Yale and found out what kind of life achievements Trix had acquired. Not only did Trix study at Paris’ Sorbonne, but she also attended Oxford in England. As a woman who grew up in the early 1900s, this was incredibly impressive for the time.

5 She Refused To Drive

According to Trix, women shouldn’t drive. Trix and Emily were getting ready to go to tea with Lorelai when Emily had a minor breakdown in front of Richard. She was tired of being condescended to in her own home. She was nothing but kind and thoughtful to Trix and yet she was treated horribly.

While Emily was venting to Richard, Trix popped around the corner and said “I ordered a car. Women shouldn’t drive.” It’s at that moment, Emily realized she had nothing left to give to her torturous mother-in-law.

4 She Rented Her House To Korn

When Trix came back to Hartford, she told the family that she was considering moving home. She told everyone she was renting her home out to a rock band but their lease was almost up. Hearing the words “rock band” startled Lorelai and Rory, and it turns out that Trix was renting her home to Korn. Some might assume that a rock band would destroy the home they were living in but Trix promised they were lovely tenants who planted fresh tulips in her garden.

3 She Knows How To Dine

As a way to get to know Lorelai better, Trix suggested the entire family eat at the Independence Inn. If Lorelai thought dining with Emily was impossible, dining with Trix was an entirely different scenario.

Trix ordered Mitchel around and told him that she desired each course 12 minutes apart. Emily, however, wasn’t done eating one course in 12 minutes and desired more time, which only bothered Trix even more. She sat there and glared at Emily as she slowly ate her meal on her own time.

2 She Hated Music

Richard Gilmore has always appreciated the classics. Rory got him vinyl for his 60th birthday, Lorelai brought him his music to the hospital when he had a heart attack, and he laid in his office listening to yesteryear music on the day his mother passed away. However, it appears that Richard did not get his love of music from his mother. According to him, she found music to be “frivolous.”

1 She Never Wanted To Remarry

In the episode “Face Off,” Emily was appalled when she walked into her home and found Trix kissing a mysterious man in a purple tracksuit. Emily snuck out of the room, not knowing what else to do. She secretly loved having dirt on her mother-in-law and wanted to unleash the secret to Trix’s friends but didn’t know how to. She eventually lost her cool and did it anyway, embarrassing Trix.

Trix later told Emily that she had been seeing this man on-and-off for years but refused to marry again. In her eyes, she married once and that was enough, but she still got lonely.
