Kurt Hummel was one of Glee’s most important and influential characters, bringing some powerful storylines and plenty of warm and passionate moments. He was an excellent character with the energy that he brought and he really inspired tons of people watching at home, which made his character even more influential.

Even though his character and personality were brilliant, and he had some great plots, Kurt was also one of the best singers on the show. Within the group, his voice was always a powerful one, and his solos were always incredibly enjoyable. Over the course of the show, he got to shine on his own plenty of times, but these are his 10 greatest songs in the solo spotlight.

10 “I Want To Hold Your Hand”

This is not only one of Kurt’s best songs on Glee, but it is also one of the most emotional performances in the show as well. Here, Kurt is singing from the heart after his father suffers a heart attack, clearly singing with the worry that he might end up passing away.

Throughout the episode, Kurt really struggles with different methods of healing and dealing with grief, and he lets it all out within this performance. It’s a total spin on how the song is normally performed, but it is a positive one.

9 “Not The Boy Next Door”

This song is one of the more upbeat numbers that Kurt sings throughout his time on Glee, and it is certainly one to get the toes tapping. This is what he performs during his audition for NYADA, and it is certainly a risk for him as this isn’t the song that he has prepared to do.

However, it’s one that works out as it not only showcases his ability to change things up on the fly, but he also performs the song with tons of passion as he is desperate to earn a plan at the university.

8 “Some People”

This song is a great one for many different reasons. Firstly, because the track is normally performed by a woman, this sends a great message across to people that anybody can do whatever they want, with Kurt sticking to his beliefs and pushing the song through no matter what.

This performance also shows off some of his dancing abilities, which often go unnoticed throughout the series. But most importantly, it’s a great vocal performance as well, which tends to be the case with all of his songs.

7 “I Believe In A Thing Called Love”

Because it wasn’t the most frequently used genre in Glee, whenever a rock song appeared it always ended up standing out. The pressure was always raised with these performances, but Kurt Hummel’s cover of this track by The Darkness really was a great one.

It was something totally different for the character that audiences hadn’t heard before and it did catch people by surprise. However, because the song was so great and his performance was able to match it, this became one of his best solos. Also, getting to sing parts with Adam Lambert is certainly an amazing moment as well.

6 “Le Jazz Hot”

This is a song that is more in Kurt Hummel’s wheelhouse, on the stage performing, and he knocks it out of the park. It’s not a song that is as memorable as some of the others on this list or in Glee generally, but this performance helped open the eyes of a lot of people to this song.

This number brings all of Kurt’s sass out to play as he showcases within the choreography and it helps to create a really memorable song as he takes center stage and shows what he is capable of.

5 “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina”

Another fantastic show tune from Glee is “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina,” which is one that is really smartly put together as it is actually two separate solos blended into one. This is sung by both Kurt and Rachel and they both use it as solo tracks.

The show blends them both together nicely and it created one really major song that is incredibly memorable. Kurt uses this as his audition to sing a solo at sectionals and while he doesn’t actually get the part, it is certainly an amazing performance.

4 “Being Alive”

This is yet another fantastic solo by Kurt Hummel who really gets to stand out on his own within this number. It’s one that he sings incredibly passionately and it is impossible not to be very impressed when listening to the vocals on display.

Kurt has to pour his heart into this performance as he tries to get into NYADA, and it actually leads to him shedding a tear when he gains a standing ovation at the end of the song, bringing together a really perfect moment for the character.

3 “As If We Never Said Goodbye”

This is certainly one of Kurt’s strongest solo performances as he really took the words of the song and pumped them full of heart, energy, and passion. It helped take the song to totally new levels and that is what made it such a memorable performance for him.

This moment comes shortly after he returns to the New Directions, after taking time away. It’s clearly a nod to his friends about how happy he is to be back, and how much he appreciates everyone being there for him.

2 “Blackbird”

Kurt Hummel taking on the difficult song that is “Blackbird” is certainly not an easy one as this is a tough song, but he puts his own twist on it and it really works nicely. Here he is singing about the death of a pet bird and that brings out some emotion within his performance.

There’s tons of heart and it’s easy for the audience to get sucked into that as it feels genuinely emotional as he sings. He doesn’t belt this number out and instead, Kurt is very soft with his performance which makes it even more impressive as it is so subtle.

1 “Rose’s Turn”

This song is one of the most iconic in all of Glee and a lot of that is down to the fantastic performance from Kurt Hummel while he sings it. It’s one full of fire and passion and it’s impossible not to really love this one while listening to it.

It’s a song that he actually sings out of anger after trying to cover up who he is in order to impress his father, including pretending to not be gay, feeling like he only cares about his brother. He expresses the anger he feels in this song and that’s something that provides a really great message to others and that is why it is his best song.
