Back in 2009, the American musical-comedy Glee proved to be a hit across the world. The show generally received positive reviews for the way it represented LGBTQIA2+ characters and portrayed mature themes (such as domestic violence and teen suicide). It also attained a large fanbase because fans could relate to several of the New Direction members’ personalities.

However, the show’s popularity decreased in its last few years when several cast members left the show or were demoted to supporting roles. As a result, the show aired its final season in 2015. While fans were delighted to see some of their favorite characters make a return at one point, not everyone was happy with the way the writers ended certain arcs.

10 Puck, Quinn & Mike

After the teens graduated from McKinley High, the viewers never got to see much of Puck, Quinn, or Mike. In season 4, it was revealed that Mike was in Chicago studying dance and Quinn was at Yale. Puck was also seen attending community college with Finn before he decides to enlist in the Air Force.

However, the writers didn’t provide any closure for these characters in the final season. Other than helping the New Directions, no one knew what they got up to in the time jump. Were Quinn and Puck still dating? Did Mike become a professional dancer and find happiness? Where did life lead them after college? It was a terrible ending for them.

9 Kitty

Arriving in season 4, Kitty was introduced as the new captain of the Cheerios and the minor antagonist of the show. Similar to Santana and Quinn, Kitty would still maintain her mean-spirited attitude but come to love the Glee club. She was also seen to be involved in integral storylines, including a romance with Artie and a rivalry-turned-friendship with Marley.

Since Kitty was the only ‘Newbie” to feature heavily in season 6, fans believed she would have more of a role. However, most of her storylines revolved around helping the New Directions retain the National Championship. The writers did show Kitty living in New York after she graduated McKinley, but that’s all anyone knows.

8 Artie & Tina

One of the biggest surprises of the season finale was the revelation that Artie and Tina were together. While everyone knew what Artie had been getting up to after he graduated McKinley (since he lived in New York), Tina wasn’t seen much – mainly because she was at Brown University.

However, by season 6, Tina and Artie did come back briefly to help recruit members for New Directions. Although it looked like Tina was going to reunite with Mike, the writers took her arc in a different when she ended up with Artie. The future looked bright for these two as Tina was an actress and Artie’s was a successful director.

7 Sue

Out of all the characters, fans will probably agree that the most bizarre ending had to be Sue’s. Sometime in the five-year time jump, it is revealed that Sue found a new career in politics and was now the Vice President of the United States. During a TV interview, Sue was seen to state that she would be running for President in the 2024 campaign too.

While her interest in politics seemed a little out of left-field, fans were delighted to see that her friendship with Becky had withstood the years. It just would have been good if the writers had referred to Robin as well.

6 Santana & Brittany

After six years of being in an on-and-off relationship, Brittana fans were delighted to see them finally tie the knot. Fans were also happy to see that Santana managed to rebuild her relationship with her grandmother after going years without speaking to each other.

However, there were a few things the fans would have liked to change. Despite Brittany being a genius and Santana gaining a few acting jobs, the writers didn’t give reveal much about their future in the flashforward. They would never know if Brittany or Santana found their passions and achieved their dreams…

5 Mercedes

Out of all the characters on the show, Mercedes was the most underrated, by far. While her talents were often overlooked by many, the writers did give her the recognition she deserved in the final two seasons. At the end of season 3, Mercedes revealed she would be moving to LA to work on a recording contract and attend several classes at UCLA.

In season 5, it was revealed that Mercedes was moving to New York as the successful up-and-coming singer was working on her next album. By 2020, Mercedes had opened for Beyoncé’s world tour and was a successful singer. She also seemed to be reconnecting with Sam too.

4 Will & Emma

Although Will and Emma’s arcs took a bit of a backseat after most of the McKinley Alumni moved to New York, the writers still made time to ensure they had proper closure. After the New Directions reclaimed the National Championship, Superintendent Harris revealed that he was going to be making Will the new principal of McKinley.

Since Emma had tenure, fans automatically assumed she remained the guidance counselor of the school. By 2020, fans were also glad to see that Will and Emma were happily married and had another four children.

3 Sam

Over the six seasons, Sam was seen to have numerous careers. First, he was a stripper, then a model, and then the Assistant Coach of the McKinley Titans. However, by 2020 it was revealed that Sam had finally found his passion – teaching. After telling Blaine that he would not be moving back to New York, Sam ended up applying to be the Director of the New Directions.

Sam also seems close friends with Emma and Will, hanging out at their apartment and seen playing with their children. Although Tina revealed he had a new girlfriend, the writers have implied this isn’t going to last long as he has started reconnecting with Mercedes.

2 Kurt & Blaine

Another set of characters that were given a satisfying ending was Blaine and Kurt. Although they were broken up at the beginning of the year, fans were delighted to see Blaine and Kurt eventually tied the knot in an impromptu wedding. Five years later, the future was also seen to be bright for the couple as they were both revealed to be successful Broadway actors.

Furthermore, the writers further delighted fans when it was revealed that they were going to be parents. Klaine fans were definitely satisfied with this ending.

1 Rachel

Out of all the characters on the show, Rachel got the best ending since she finally achieved her dreams. For six years, fans had heard Rachel tell everyone how she was born for the stage and dreamed of being on Broadway. Despite the emotional journey, Rachel eventually ended up achieving her ambitions and even won a Tony.

Rachel also seemed happily married to Jesse and was still close friends with Kurt and Blaine. It was one of the only satisfying endings on the show as the writing was properly developed and detailed.
