Jake Oakley starred in season 2 of the latest hit for Netflix, Glow Up! The makeup guru only placed seventh out of ten contestants but had plenty of talent to take him further in his career. So what does the beauty expert do now?

Glow Up is one of Netflix’s latest competition based reality TV shows. The program, which partners with the BBC, is set in North London. Contestants vie for a spot on the show by sending in videos of themselves creating their best at home looks. Ranging from beautiful evening makeup to something straight out of a sci-fi movie, these blossoming makeup artists give it their all. Once the 10 competitors are selected, they travel to the studio and complete weekly professional assignments that are judged by some of the best people in the business. The end goal isn’t just to win the competition but also to secure the prize of a contract working in the industry they so desperately aspire to be in.

Since his competition stint on Glow Up, the beauty boy has started working as a freelance makeup artist. Doing lashes and looks, the up and coming king of beauty didn’t let the coronavirus stop him from doing his passion. While in lockdown, the star began hand crafting lashes to sell to prospective clients. Oakley sure knows how to hustle. This is one of many ways that individuals working in the beauty industry have financially survived the pandemic.

Prior to where he is now, Oakley was working as a retail assistant at a MAC store, and while this makeup artist only placed seventh in the competition, the rest of his background suggests that he is well versed in almost all things makeup. Hailing from the town of Cambridge, the 19-year-old has already worked with major brands: MAC cosmetics, Smashbox cosmetics, and Urban Decay cosmetics, to name a few. He has also become certified as a spray-tannist. The reasoning behind his current work of creating custom lashes comes from an extensive background working with Russian lashes. This kid is well rounded in his industry at such a young age and is already making a name for himself.

Once the pandemic is over it will be neat to see what he does next with his talent. Perhaps now that Oakley has had global exposure by participating in the Netflix series Glow Up, he will be picked up by major brands as a spokesperson, or requested to apply makeup on a set, or maybe even work with models. Whatever this budding star does, he is sure to do it well.
