Fans of Glow Up were in for a surprise after news broke that Stacey Dooley would no longer be hosting the makeup competition show for its third season currently airing on Netflix. The shocking news broke in October 2020 when Stacey took to social media to announce she would no longer be hosting the popular series. In January, TV personality and model, Maya Jama, was confirmed to be the new official host. While Stacey made it seem like she was leaving the show on her own terms, it turns out she was allegedly fired.

Glow Up: Britain’s Next Makeup Star follows 10 young makeup artists in the UK competing against each other to become the next big makeup star in Britain and win a contract assisting some of the world’s top makeup artists. The show originally airs on BBC and Netflix. Fans were shook at the new season’s cast shakeup, and they were left wondering why Stacey was no longer part of the show.

According to multiple reports, Stacey was fired after appearing in a Clairol’s campaign in July 2020. The ad aired shortly after season 2 of Glow Up concluded and left her bosses infuriated. Once the bosses at BBC found out she had broken the broadcaster’s rules by starring in a beauty ad, she was secretly let go. The Sun reported that the BBC felt Stacey’s ad for Clairol was deemed to have mimicked her role as host of Glow Up. According to the Daily Mail, the BBC has strict rules about what adverts its stars can appear in while contracted by the broadcaster. A source said in regards to the BBC, “They are sick of people using their platform to go off and earn private money.” Stacey has remained quiet about the issue.

Stacey’s firing was a minor setback for the journalist. However, she is still finding new opportunities to boost her career. Stacey’s firing was a tricky situation for the broadcasters because she is a BBC mainstay. However, the BBC has given her a second chance. She is the new host of a BBC cooking show called Hungry For It. The series will search for up-and-coming culinary talent and will begin filming this month. A source told The Sun, “Stacey’s warmth and support towards the contestants on Glow Up created a feel-good series which producers want to bring to this new show.” This gig seems like the perfect opportunity for Stacey and a great rebound from an incautious mistake.

Some fans were upset about Stacey’s departure; however, she has made it clear that she has no bad blood with anyone and congratulated Maya on her new role. Stacey wished Maya luck as the new host and said, “You’re going to smash it!” Maya responded, “Like she’s been amazing, and she’s doing incredible…so I think it was a nice crossover.” The crossover has been nice indeed. Glow Upfans enjoy Maya’s bubbly personality and humorous banter and are excited to see more of her on the show in the future.
