God Of War: All Idunn Apple Chest Locations

To raise Kratos’ maximum amount of health, players will have to find and open at least three Idunn Apple chests in God of War. There are nine Idunn Apples scattered throughout God of War that need to be found, allowing Kratos to have his maximum health increased three times. The health bar is a stat separate from the Defense stat that increases as Kratos acquires better armor or specific runes associated with increased defenses.

Though players could make their way through the entirety of God of War without increasing Kratos’ health, the enemies both Kratos and Atreus face become much more difficult to block, dodge, and parry perfectly. There are multiple times through the God of War story where Kratos is left open for an enemy’s follow-up attack, even after blocking the first. An increased health bar offers a little more forgiveness for the encounters where the odds seem stacked against Kratos and Atreus, particularly on more challenging difficulty settings.

Each Idunn Apple chest in God of War is locked when players first find them, but they can be opened by activating or destroying three runes within the area. The runes typically appear on either some form of pottery or Nordic bell-like structure and can be hidden outside the chest’s line of sight. In the instances in which the runes are indestructible, players will need to throw and recall the God of War Leviathan Axe in rapid succession to deactivate all the runes in time to unlock the chests.

Every Idunn Apple Chest Location In God Of War

Finding three Idunn Apple chests in God of War will permanently increase Kratos’ health. Collecting nine will fully upgrade Kratos’ vitality and unlock the Idunn’s Orchard achievement. Players can find all nine Idunn Apple chests in the following areas of God of War:

• The Marked Trees: Early in God of War, players will encounter a crossroads when Atreus is tracking the deer. Instead of following the trail left, head straight to find the chest and marked runes inside.
• Path to the Mountain: After killing the first Revenant, climb up the pathway and keep right to find the Idunn Apple chest location. The runes are scattered in this area, and Kratos must throw the Leviathan Axe to destroy them all.
• Path to the Mountain (second chest): After finishing the Brenna Daudi troll fight, the chest will be to the right of the waterfall. These runes must be deactivated in rapid succession by throwing the Leviathan Axe as well. One rune is located above the chest, another to the left on the other side of the waterfall, and the third can be found by following the stream upward toward the mountain.
• Forgotten Caverns: Found in the northwest area of the Lake of Nine, travel to this chest location via boat. The runes are on a tower, and all three begin spinning once the first one is hit.
• Lookout Tower: Head south of the Lake of Nine. The Idunn Apple chest is near the area where Tyr’s Temple joins the start of the lake.
• Alfheim: The Alfheim Idunn Apple chest can be found shortly after arriving in Alfheim when players must first lower the platform for the God of War and Atreus to reach the next level. While the chest is on the top floor, the runes are hidden across the levels as the platform descends.
• Inside the Mountain: During the “Inside the Mountain“ quest, this chest is in the same location where the first Heavy Viken was found. To deactivate the runes, players will need Atreus to use a shock arrow to destroy one. Kratos can destroy the others in the area.
• Tyr’s Vault: The Idunn Apple chest in Tyr’s Vault can be found shortly after opening up the passageway with multiple traps. The rune pots are near the chest, on a ceiling trap, and on the way to the next room. In God of War Ragnarok, Tyr will play a major role alongside Atreus and Kratos.
• Light Elf Outpost: This Idunn Apple chest is only available after the water has drained from the lake. The rune pots are hidden around the walls of the tower on the Lake of Nine. One is located under the light bridge, another across the gap in the opposite of the chest, and the final is in the wall of the tower just past the right side of the second chain.

In addition to the nine Idunn Apples found in-game, players can actually find two more apples after gaining access to some of the hidden areas throughout God of War’s main story. Though these two Idunn Apples won’t raise Kratos’ health further, they can be used to substitute any of the Idunn Apples found throughout the main areas of the game.

God of War is available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 and will be available for PC on January 14, 2022.
