The final boss fight of God of War‘s main story pits Kratos against Baldur for the last time, and the Norse God of Light gains some assistance from his mother, Freya. Baldur fights Kratos at full strength during this fight, unlike the very first time he met the God of War as “The Stranger.” When Baldur lays eyes upon Freya for the first time since he was a child, he instantly becomes full of rage and turns his attention away from Kratos.

The final fight against Baldur begins when Kratos steps in between the Norse god of light and Freya. Kratos attempts to stop Baldur from attacking Freya, and in turn, the God of War receives Baldur’s full attention to start the fight. The first stage of the fight is somewhat similar to the opening boss fight of God of War, with Baldur dashing quickly as he throws punch after punch at Kratos.

During the opening stage of the final fight against Baldur, the best thing to do is to use the God of War‘s best Guardian Shield abilities to perfectly guard against the Norse god’s attacks and attack only when Baldur lets his guard down. Freya will attempt to intervene several times, forcing Kratos to break out of her vine traps. However, shortly after Baldur loses a small amount of health, the spell protecting his life is broken. This is where the real fight against Baldur begins, and Kratos must use both the Levithan Axe and the Blades of Chaos to bring him down.

How To Defeat Baldur & Freya in God of War

Freya will attack from the sidelines throughout the rest of the fight using Thamur, the giant, to slam down on the terrain for multiple large area-of-effect attacks. Additionally, Freya will also summon Draugr to fight alongside her son. As the God of War continues to fight Baldur, Freya will consistently use Thamur to change where the two are fighting. Although the change in scenery does little for impacting how Baldur fights, it does mean that any health items in the area won’t be available for long.

The most important part of the final fight against Baldur is that he constantly changes his biological features, causing him to resist either the Leviathan Axe or the Blades of Chaos, depending on his form. Baldur’s abrupt changes are easily distinguishable, and all players have to do is recognize which weapon to use at the moment. It’s important for players to invest in the skills for both weapons long before the fight begins, which can only be done by gaining more XP in God of War. Baldur and Freya will be defeated easily as long as players explore God of War’s locations frequently before the final boss fight, allowing Kratos and Atreus to continue on the last leg of their journey.

God of War is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
