A series of ridiculous God of War PC mods has motivated laughs and memes from the action title’s fanbase. The mythological adventure was a huge success when it launched on PlayStation 4 in 2018, and the game’s recent PC release has introduced a whole new audience to Kratos and Atreus’ quest. While God of War has no PC mod support, fans have inevitably found a way to put their own twist on the experience.

Since the announcement of God of War’s PC rerelease, fans have been looking forward to altering the title with mods. Even creative director Cory Barlog has expressed interest in seeing fan-made creations, despite the game’s lack of official mod support. Many of the mods expected for the title are more silly than serious, with one popular proposal transforming Kratos and Atreus into Star Wars’ Yoda and The Mandalorian’s Grogu. Creative crossovers with Super Mario, Mortal Kombat and more have also been conceptualized ahead of the title’s recent PC launch. One hilarious piece of art transforms God of War’s Kratos into GTA: San Andreas’ CJ, although this concept has not yet been brought to life.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In perhaps the earliest example of bizarre God of War mods, Twitter user Speclizer has already found several ways to distort Kratos’ body. The first mod makes Kratos’ arms absolutely enormous, which puts a dark and humorous spin on the scene where he carries Faye to her funeral pyre. Another unsettling video features “Kryball,” which is simply Kratos with his eye encompassing his entire head. Finally, Speclizer’s most recent mod enlarges Kratos’ eyes and lower jaw, and the results are hilariously scary. Fellow Twitter users were both amused and terrified, with many sharing memes and bracing themselves for future mods.

While memes are an obvious advantage of God of War’s PC mods, the base game itself can also benefit greatly from fan creations. While the feature itself is not included by default, ray tracing in God of War on PC can be achieved using a custom shader. Ray tracing technology can enhance a game’s lighting and reflections, with the feature implemented in many new-generation titles. Downloading a custom shader can add the same effect to God of War, though the option is reportedly locked behind a paywall by its creator.

With God of War’s PC release, it was inevitable that gamers would quickly create bizarre mods to distort Kratos and Atreus’ adventure. Speclizer may be the first modder to bring these ideas to life, perverting Kratos’ body in fantastic and creepy ways. These videos are likely the tip of the iceberg, with terrifying God of War mods soon flooding the internet.
