Ryan Hurst, the actor portraying Thor in the upcoming God of War Ragnarök, stoked his rivalry with Kratos during a recent visit to Santa Monica Studios. The developer reinvented its mythological action franchise with its 2018 installment, and a highly-anticipated sequel will conclude Kratos and Atreus’ Norse journey. God of War Ragnarok’s version of Thor was officially revealed back in September 2021, and fans are extremely eager to see the God of Thunder face off with the Ghost of Sparta.

While he only makes a brief physical appearance, Thor looms large over 2018’s God of War. Due to his immense strength and importance among the Aesir pantheon, the mighty god is depicted in multiple statues and mural illustrations throughout the game. He is well-known among God of War’s supporting cast, with Brok and Sindri having crafted Thor’s iconic hammer Mjolnir and Mimir speaking dismissively of the “fat dobber.” Thor’s lightning-powered sons Magni and Modi even appear as a boss fight towards the middle of the journey. A scene depicts Thor arriving on Kratos and Atreus’ footstep, possibly seeking revenge after Kratos and Atreus kill Magni and Modi, if players return home after beating God of War.

Actor Ryan Hurst will play the unstoppable Thor in God of War Ragnarok, and a recent Instagram post details a visit to Santa Monica Studios. The images show Hurst posing with the developer’s logo and God of War display, while seemingly threatening a statue of Kratos himself. The post’s caption reads “…Are you a calm and reasonable person?”, a quote from the God of Thunder himself heard in a God of War Ragnarok trailer. The photos give a look at the man set to challenge the Ghost of Sparta, while possibly hinting that new information about the game will soon arrive.

While Kratos and Atreus’ Norse adventure is set to continue in 2022, there may be signs of a God of War Ragnarok delay into 2023. The action epic was originally announced for a 2021 release before getting pushed back to 2022. A PlayStation Showcase in September 2021 reaffirmed this 2022 launch, though no new information has been provided by Santa Monica Studios since last year. Other AAA games like The Legends of Zelda: BOTW 2 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League have been pushed into 2023, and without any updates it seems that God of War Ragnarok may follow suit.

God of War Ragnarok’s promised confrontation between Thor and Kratos is a huge part of the anticipation surrounding the game. Actor Christopher Judge brought gravity and strength to his portrayal of Kratos, and it seems that Ryan Hurst is prepared to directly match that power. While the sequel’s release date is uncertain, Thor will no doubt be waiting for his moment with Mjolnir at the ready.

God of War Ragnarök will release in 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
