Godzilla Singular Point features several established Toho monsters. The new anime series from Netflix brought back a few old favorites who haven’t been seen on the big or small screen since the Showa series in the 1960s and 1970s. Godzilla Singular Point debuted in Japan in April 2021, before the 13-episode season 1 became available in North America in June 2021.

A few years after making a trilogy of Godzilla anime movies for Netflix, Toho launched Godzilla Singular Point, another Netflix exclusive.  Like many other Godzilla projects from Toho, the focus of the series is on a handful of human characters who must work together to prevent Godzilla from destroying everything in sight. It’s a concept that contrasts a bit with what Legendary Pictures has offered via the MonsterVerse in recent years, but it’s right in line with what Toho has done with Shin Godzilla and its Netflix films.

Of course, the primary threat to the show’s human heroes is its titular antagonist, but there are several other giant creatures that they have to worry about as well. In the case of Netflix’s anime movies, the only guest kaiju were Mechagodzilla and Ghidorah, but Godzilla Singular Point is taking a different approach by making much more extensive use of Toho’s library. Some of the creatures included in the show are huge names in the Godzilla franchise, while others are lesser-known kaiju limited to only one movie. Here’s every monster who appears in Godzilla Singular Point, and how they compare to the original versions.

Jet Jaguar

Godzilla may be in the title, but the show’s actual star is Jet Jaguar, a Toho character who made his first-and-only live-action appearance in the 1973 film, Godzilla vs. Megalon. Based on Ultraman, Jet Jaguar was a friendly robot created by two Japanese scientists who could grow to Godzilla’s size. The events of the film saw him form an alliance with Godzilla against the two main villains, Megalon and Gigan. Following the team-up, Jet Jaguar never returned to the movies, with all his roles limited to just the comic books and video games.

The character was revived in a big way by Singular Point, with him acting in a capacity that’s not at all unlike how he was utilized in Godzilla vs. Megalon. Similar to his portrayal in the Showa film, Singular Point’s Jet Jaguar is the hero of the story that the humans have to rest all their hopes on. It was revealed early on that the robot is the property of a small company called Otaki Factory, which relies on it to defend the region from monster threats. At first, it was piloted by Goro Otaki, but that no longer became necessary once Yun uploaded it with an AI, which allowed Jet Jaguar to act on its own without being controlled by the other characters. As for his design, the show allowed him to keep his iconic, orange-yellow-and-silver color scheme but changed up his humanoid look by giving him an enlarged torso and long, skinny legs.

Rodan

Rodan was subject to some notable changes in Godzilla Singular Point. The creature looked a bit less unique than usual, with his appearance being an almost exact match for a pterodactyl, complete with the same head shape. Not only that, but he was also approximately the same size too, which made him significantly smaller than Godzilla. Rodan would have been too tiny to fight with him, but he was able to go toe-to-toe with Jet Jaguar in episode 2. Teased as an extraterrestrial species, Singular Point’s Rodan travels in flocks. He was too small to be much of a threat on his own, but hundreds of Rodans appearing all over the Earth made his species a major concern for the humans.

Anguirus

Godzilla’s loyal sidekick from Destroy All Monsters, Godzilla vs. Gigan, and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla received a menacing update in Singular Point, which provided the ankylosaurus-like kaiju with a spike-covered head and brand-new powers. In the new show’s continuity, Anguirus can peer a few moments into the future, which is not something he – nor any other Toho kaiju for that matter – has been able to do before. Plus, his spikes can redirect ranged attacks.

Godzilla

Just like the version of the Japanese pop culture icon that devastated Japan in Shin Godzilla, the Godzilla that appears in Singular Point has more than one form. Interestingly, his original fish-like form from the early episodes caused him to be mistaken for Terror of Mechagodzilla’s Titanosaurus, but it was eventually revealed that this creature was in fact Godzilla, a mythical destroyer from ancient legends. By episode 10, the beast had transformed into a humongous monster that could easily be recognized as Toho’s King of the Monsters. The small tusks on his mouth and the enormous size of his thighs help distinguish him from previous versions, but he still has the physical characteristics that viewers expect from all iterations of Godzilla, such as the dorsal fins and the atomic breath (which is surrounded by glowing blue circles in Singular Point).

Manda

The blue sea serpents known as Mandas who fought with Godzilla in Singular Point are accurate adaptations of the Toho monster of the same name. In 1963’s Atragon, Manda was a dragon who lived in the ocean as the protector of an undersea kingdom. He returned in Destroy All Monsters as a resident of Monster Island drawn into the battle against King Ghidorah.

Salunga

The green, reptilian kaiju referred to as Salunga in the anime is apparently a rebranded take on Gabara from All Monsters Attack, which was a film where the entire plot was a dream sequence from the point of view of a child. Gabara himself wasn’t even a real monster, but instead a product of the child’s imagination. Singular Point renamed Gabara “Salunga,” removed the silliness of the kaiju, and replaced it with the fearsome visage of a powerful, agile creature that moves like a monkey. Salunga, who emerged as a big improvement over All Monsters Attack’s Gabara, turned out to be one of the strongest forces in the show, second only to Godzilla.

Kumonga

Kumonga aka Spiga was a gigantic, black spider that fought Godzilla in Son of Godzilla, before being reimagined as an ally in Destroy All Monsters.Singular Point took various liberties with Kumonga in Singular Point by redesigning him as a small, green arachnid monster that bears very little resemblance to the Kumonga from the classic movies. His look also incorporates Megalon’s design. The blades on the tips of Kumonga’s legs can be clearly identified as the drills on Megalon’s hands. Comparable to the situation with Rodan and Manda, Kumonga is more of a species than he is a standalone creature in Singular Point, as Jet Jaguar and the humans had to deal with dozens of these monsters.

Mechagodzilla

A post-credits scene in the season finale reveals that the anime is introducing Mechagodzilla, presumably in Godzilla Singular Point season 2. He hasn’t been activated yet, but the scene did unveil his design. As per usual, Godzilla’s robotic counterpart comes equipped with finger missiles and other ranged weapons, with one addition to his arsenal being sharp claws.
