Set immediately after the events of Godzilla vs. Kong, the Godzilla TV series will reference the carnage wrought across the California coastline by Godzilla, Kong, and the swiftly dispatched Mechagodzilla. By extension, the new Godzilla series will also bear ties to Kong’s birthplace on Skull Island and the events that transpired there from Kong: Skull Island‘s narrative to the present day.

As with the series’ MonsterVerse connections, the Godzilla TV show’s story remains largely under-wraps, due to the project’s freshness. However, as per Apple TV+‘s statement, the Godzilla series’ story will follow “the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the series explores one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.” This is a highly tantalizing synopsis from the Apple TV+ original and one that will surely be expanded on in future teasers to reveal the full scope of Monarch’s shady legacy.

When The Godzilla TV Show’s Release Date Could Be

While excitement is understandably high following Apple TV+ landing their original Godzilla TV show, the series’ release date is still some way off. Given the ambitious scope of the Godzilla series, coupled with what is likely a mammoth CG undertaking for the studio, means at the earliest audiences can expect to see the Godzilla TV show streaming sometime in late 2023. Although Apple has confirmed no official release date, audiences will wait with bated breath to hear more about the studio’s epic new take on Godzilla‘s MonsterVerse narrative.
