The legendary Kaiju known as Godzilla has been around since the first film in 1954. Since then, Godzilla has been the subject of several movies, comics, manga, cartoons, and video games. No matter the medium, Godzilla seems to always be fighting something, be it humans or other Kaiju.

Everyone knows Godzilla’s most fought foes are King Kong, Mothra, King Ghidorah, Rodan, Anguirus, and Gigan, but that is not every Kaiju Godzilla has ever fought. Since Godzilla has been around for decades, it makes sense that there are many monsters that want him dead. Here are some of Godzilla’s 10 strangest enemies, to date.

10 Rhiahn

The first strangest enemy on this list is Rhiahn. He was first seen in the Marvel Comics Godzilla, King of the Monsters #13. Rhiahn is a mega monster who was sent to Earth to take it over. Rhiahn has a very powerful bite and is able to fly because of his bio blades. While Rhiahn is very powerful, it does not change the fact that he looks like a Venus Fly Trap bred with a giant lizard. He looks weird and, as seen in the panel above, Godzilla defeats him pretty brutally.

9 Ebirah

Ebirah made its first appearance in Ebirah, Horror of the Deep. Ebirah’s name comes from the Japanese word Ebi which means “shrimp;” but Ebirah is far from a shrimp he is actually a giant lobster. This Kaiju’s job is to guard the waters of the Devil’s Island were the Red Bamboo are making nuclear weapons. Ebirah is stationed at the waters to keep boats away as he is seen being able to rip them a part with his giant claws. Godzilla was able to defeat him by tearing his claws off, thus making him retreat.

He was also used to make Godzilla fight in this mutation ring by attacking H.E.A.T and kidnapping Godzilla when their headquarters was down. The Giant Water Beetle was officially taken down by the members of H.E.A.T and Godzilla in the end by Godzilla throwing him into the control tower near the fighting arena.

7 The Beta-Beast

The next Kaiju on this list is from Marvel Comics Godzilla, King of the Monsters #12. In this issue, Godzilla is sent to the moon to fight against the Megans along side the Betans. Before they team up, the Betans puts Godzilla to the test against the Beta-Beast. The Beta-Beast is just creepy looking and gets defeated fairly easy against Godzilla. He is just lame and all of his tentacles do not help with his look at all.

6 Hedorah

Next is Hedorah, which was first seen in the 1971 movie Godzilla vs Hedorah. Fun fact: Hedorah’s name in Japanese word Hedoro, which means “mud.” Hedorah reigns from the Dark Gas Nebula, which just so happened to land on Earth.

After his first appearance, Hedorah returns as Godzilla’s villain quite a few times, in both the movies and comic books. Hedorah terrifying looking with his sideways eyes and how he resembles a walking pile of mud. His powers also revolve around mud and acid attacks.

5 Seaweed Monster

The Seaweed Monster was first seen in the Godzilla Power Hour episode, “The Seaweed Monster.” The Seaweed Monster was created under the ocean because of the exposure to radiation. When Godzilla came to defeat the Kaiju, he had to retreat, but the seaweed that flew off during the fight tuned into other monsters.

The Seaweed monster is also able to absorb other seaweed monsters and can grow from them. This Kaiju looks like a Scooby-Doo monster, which is not surprising since they were both created by Hanna-Barbera.

4 Breeder Beast

Another Kaiju from Godzilla Power Hour is the Breeder Beast. The Breeder Beast was created by an oil spill that ended up mutating a single-cell organism. Because of the accident, this Kaiju has a living breathing reactor that absorbs anything and everything. While Godzilla was able to make the creature retreat, it ended up finding a natural gas plant and absorbed everything it could which made it an actual threat.

3 Mechani-Kong

Fans know about Mechagodzilla, but there is also a Mecha version of King Kong known as Mechani-Kong. Mechani-Kong made its first appearance in The King Kong Show. Godzilla and Mechani-Kong went toe-to-toe in the Godzilla King of Monsters manga, which was published by Kodansha Comics.

In the manga, Mechani-Kong was built to help Mechagodzilla III try to defeat the real Godzilla, but they both failed. Godzilla broke the arm of Mechani-Kong and fell on top of Megagodzilla III, which made them fall into the ocean.

2 Nuclear Reactor Demon

The Nuclear Reactor Demon made its first appearance in Godzilla in Hell #1. As the name suggests, it is a demon from a Nuclear plant that tries to kill Godzilla. This villain came out when Godzilla fell through a hole and into Hell. While exploring the city in Hell, Godzilla cam across the nuclear plant, which is when the demon attacked.  In each issue of Godzilla in Hell, he goes deeper into the depths and has to fight his way out of the underworld.

1 Y2K Bug

This Kaiju bug debuted as part of a contemporary supplement for The Godzilla Power Hour. The episode “Godzilla Vs. Y2K Bug” aired in 1999 when Y2K was a huge deal. The Y2K Bug has the power to mess with anything that uses computers. When Captain Carl Majors did not remember to update the microchips, he was unable to call Godzilla. While this is not a villain that is a big deal now back in the 90s this was one of the scariest villain of the time.
