Antonia Thomas will be reprising the role of Dr. Claire Browne on several upcoming episodes of The Good Doctor season 5. The series, which began airing on ABC in 2017, is based on the South Korean drama of the same name. It follows Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, a surgeon with autism who works at the San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital in California. Other cast members of the series include Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews, Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman, and Christina Chang as Dr. Audrey Lim.

One of the key characters in the first four seasons was Dr. Claire Browne, played by Lovesick‘s Antonia Thomas. Browne is another surgeon who befriends Dr. Murphy, though at the end of season 4 she decided to take a job at a remote hospital in Guatemala. Thomas decided to exit the show, stating that she didn’t see anywhere further for her character to go, though leaving the door open for a possible return as a guest star on the show.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Per TVLine, the show is making good on Thomas’ open door. Dr. Claire Browne will be returning on two episodes of The Good Doctor season 5 coming in spring 2022. Season 5 began airing on September 27, 2021, and just picked up again with episode 8 on February 28, 2022 after a holiday hiatus. If this season runs for as many episodes as previous seasons, it’s likely that she will have an arc on the show and exit before the Good Doctor season 5 finale.

Although she hasn’t been off The Good Doctor for that long, she has already nabbed another television opportunity that she is currently filming. She is set to appear as Maia in the upcoming British mystery thriller Suspect (which is adapted from the Danish series of the same name) opposite James Nesbitt. She will also be voicing the narrator of the 2022 Disney+ animated series The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse.

It seems like Thomas is getting exactly the opportunity she was hoping for, being able to split her time between other creative opportunities and the role she still loves on The Good Doctor. The show has managed to carry on in her absence, but the fact remains that she is an integral part of its universe, so this arrangement will certainly benefit it. Although it’s unknown in what capacity she will continue appearing on the series down the road, audiences will be able to breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Dr. Browne won’t be off their screens forever.
