Good Trouble is one of Freeform’s best shows and definitely one of the best spinoffs of all time. Part of what makes the show so popular among fans is that there is never a shortage of couples to “ship.” And the best part is all these pairings offer something different to the show and to each other.

From short-term and long-term partners to toxic and supportive couples, there really is no shortage of representation on Good Trouble. Some of these couples are easy to root for, while others are a bit more complicated, making many fans question if they should be in relationships at all.

10 Worst: Callie & Jamie

Callie doesn’t always make the best decisions when it comes to her love life, something that started when she was a teenager on The Fosters, the show from which Good Trouble spun off. While she and Jamie tried to make things work time and time again, they’re simply too different.

Agreeing with everything your significant other believes isn’t necessarily possible, but Callie and Jamie were on such opposite sides of the political spectrum that their relationship felt doomed. Things only got worse for these two when they let their careers interfere with their life as a couple. In the end, Jamie couldn’t forgive Callie for stealing his case files to help her own case, proving a point that work and pleasure don’t mix well.

9 Best: Malika & Issac

Malika and Issac hit a rough patch during season 3, but when they were going strong, they were golden. They’re also the definition of a Gen Z couple because they met on a popular dating app.

Malika and Issac are a great couple because they have so much in common, from loving romantic comedies to a shared interest in basketball. The two also agree on important issues like LGBTQ+ rights. However, it’s their ability to communicate openly and honestly with each other that keeps them going strong together.

8 Worst: Mariana & Raj

Like Callie, Mariana has never had the best luck when it comes to love, not even during The Fosters. However, she manages to have her first adult relationship when she meets Raj on her first day at Speckulate. Unfortunately, while these two started out as a power couple, things deteriorated fast.

One of the biggest problems with Mariana and Raj’s relationship was that they both had trust issues. Raj constantly felt threatened by Evan, and Mariana had her own feelings of jealousy. Their relationship was further tested by the fact that they worked together, which put an even bigger negative strain on them.

7 Worst: Davia & Dennis

Davia and Dennis might be one the most popular couples on Good Trouble, but their relationship isn’t all that healthy. Despite starting as friends, Davia and Dennis eventually developed romantic feelings for each other (though neither wanted to admit it).

Davia and Dennis hit a roadblock in their relationship largely because Davia had to carry the emotional baggage of not just her own past but also Dennis’. In trying to help him heal, she created an emotionally manipulative environment that left them both too reliant on each other to be happy.

6 Best: Callie & Gael

While it’s true Callie and Gael got off to an extremely rocky start, they managed to rebuild their relationship in the most recent season, leaving many fans elated. It seems like Callie and Gael are the will-they-won’t-they couple of the show.

Though things aren’t always great between them, Callie and Gael have been able to define clear boundaries, which helps keep their partnership solid. They also have a lot in common since they’re both extremely passionate about the LGBTQ+ community and the well-being of others in general.

5 Worst: Alice & Sumi

Friends-to-lovers is one of the most popular tropes in media, but unfortunately for Alice, having a crush on her best friend Sumi isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. While it’s true these two love and support each other tremendously, they are just too different to ever work romantically.

One of the biggest issues between them is that Alice has always been jealous of Sumi for being able to be proudly open about her sexuality. Things got even more complicated when they eventually broke up because Alice failed to set healthy boundaries between her and Sumi.

4 Best: Davia & Matt

Davia and Matt are one of the newest pairings on Good Trouble, but they’re already serving up quite a lot of romantic potential. Unlike Dennis, Matt doesn’t rely solely on Davia for his happiness.

Another thing that works for their relationship is that they’re both teachers who care deeply about their students. In fact, Matt helped Davia learn how to connect with her students, which has proven to be invaluable to her. Davia is also able to be open and honest about her feelings without having to worry about Matt running away from her, which demonstrates security in their relationship.

3 Worst: Mariana & Evan

If Mariana thought dating her co-worker was hard, she learned the hard way that dating her boss is even more complicated and difficult. While it’s clear that Mariana and Evan were always drawn to each other, actually coupling up was a recipe for disaster from the start.

The power dynamic between these two didn’t help them, but the real killer was how the relationship was seen by others. Mariana spent every day worried that people would think she coupled with Evan to advance her career, and she wasn’t able to work past that insecurity.

2 Best: Malika & Dyonte

Malika has two great romances in Good Trouble, making her the winner when it comes to characters with healthy romantic relationships on the showThough things got off to a rocky start with Dyonte because Malika was also in a relationship with Issac, they manage to work things out.

One of the thing that makes this couple a solid one is that they’re extremely honest about what their open relationship means. Communication is key to any healthy romance, but especially in ones with multiple partners. Malika and Dyonte end up proving that monogamy doesn’t have to be the only way to be in love.

1 Worst: Gael & Bryan

Gael and Bryan are not the most memorable couple from Good Trouble, which is good because they weren’t a great couple to begin with. Fans will remember that these two dated briefly during the first season of the show, but they broke up quickly.

Their relationship didn’t work out because Bryan wanted to be exclusive with Gael when Gael began seeing Callie. Bryan had no problem being in an open relationship when he was the one with multiple partners, but when Gael wanted an additional partner, it proved to be an insurmountable problem.
