Grace and Frankie: The Worst Thing Each Character Has Done

For five glorious seasons (Season 6 drops on Netflix on January 15, 2020), we’ve gotten to know the functionally dysfunctional group that’s attached to Grace and Frankie’s life. After the two friends’ husbands leave them for each other, Grace and Frankie had no choice but to team up and conquer the world together.

Along the way, we’ve met their adult children (Brianna, Mallory, Bud, and Coyote) and their children’s partners. Through the darkest of days, we’ve seen these two families rise from the ashes and find peace, but they sure did a lot of bad things along the way. Let’s take a look at some of the worst things each Grace and Frankie character has done.

10 GRACE – BELITTLED HER DAUGHTER TO THE MEDIA

Grace Hanson was not a very likable character in the first season. She was shown as a cold-hearted woman and a neglectful mother. But with Frankie’s help, Grace became softer and more empathetic, though she still did some crummy things to those close to her.

After retiring from the company she created, her daughter Brianna took over and unfortunately needed her mother’s help along the way. Grace saw this cry for help as a chance to throw her own success in her daughter’s face and threw Brianna under the bus to a journalist. Likewise, Grace never remembers her grandkids’ names, stole her friend’s medication, and tried to ditch Frankie in her time of need in the earlier seasons.

9 SOL – CHEATED ON BOTH HIS PARTNERS

Sol is soft-natured and yes, a tad hippy-ish. On his quest for self-acceptance and happiness, he realized he was gay and followed his heart. This sadly meant leaving his wife, Frankie. It was clear Sol loved both Robert and Frankie but Robert was the person he desired most. Along the way, Sol’s new life complicated things. He cheated on Robert with Frankie right before his wedding, and even called Frankie his “soulmate” when he and Robert were newlyweds. Sol also accidentally got Robert fired from his musical, he lied about rescuing his dog (when he really bought him from a breeder)… And let’s not forget about the 20+ year affair he had with his business partner.

8 FRANKIE – GOT LOST WITH HER BABY GRANDDAUGHTER IN THE CAR

Sweet Frankie is so go-with-the-flow that she doesn’t always realize that her actions affect other people. She’s loving and warm but she can also be selfish without realizing it. Her mistakes are often met with obscure excuses but are mistakes nonetheless.

Frankie has had her fair share of mistakes but the worst was when she had her baby granddaughter, Faith, in the car and got lost. Her phone died and she realized she was at the Mexican border with no clue how to get home. This obviously greatly worried her son. Frankie had also promised thousands of women free vibrators and donuts, and let’s not forget when she slept with Sol after he was already with Robert.

7 BUD – KICKS OUT HIS RECOVERING ADDICT BROTHER

Nwabudike (Bud) is Frankie and Sol’s son. He followed in his dad’s footsteps and took over the law firm when his dad and Robert retired. Throughout it all, Bud is a great guy who really cares about the well-being of his family. He set his mother up with an at-home nurse (even though she fired him), helped his dad at the firm, and took his brother Coyote in when he needed it. However, Bud has had his downfalls. Knowing his brother’s issues with addiction, Bud lost his temper on Coyote a few times and even kicked him out of his apartment. He also keeps his daughter Faith away from his mother and convinces her to join a group home, even though she’s not ready.

6 ALLISON – ASKED BUD FOR A PRENUP

To be fair, Allison is semi-new to the life of Grace and Frankie. She and Bud dated briefly before she found herself pregnant. Putting the pregnancy aside, it was clear Bud loved Allison and wanted to marry her regardless of their child. And while she’s not shown doing too many hurtful things, she did upset Bud when she wanted to sign a prenup before their wedding.

After Bud proposed, Allison requested a prenup due to Bud being a divorce lawyer. She loved Bud but feared he would take her to the cleaners if their love fell apart, which, of course, offended Bud to his core.

5 MALLORY – TOLD EVERYONE SHE WAS PREGNANT BUT GRACE

Mallory is the younger sister to Brianna and the daughter of both Robert and Grace. Instead of going the corporate route like her sister, Mallory got married young and had four kids. Sadly, her marriage to Mitch fell apart and left her as a single mother. As she’s trying to get her life back on track, Mallory tries to work with her sister at Say Grace and get back into the dating scene. But before her divorce, Mallory found out she was pregnant with twins and told everyone before her mother. It’s clear they don’t have the closest bond, but not telling Grace about the twins until later was hard on her. She also made it hard on Coyote after he sobered up and tried apologizing for the things he did wrong in the past.

4 COYOTE – VANDALIZED MALLORY’S HOME

To be honest, most of the horrible things Coyote did on Grace and Frankie happened when he was younger and an addict. The Coyote we know today is sweet, giving, apologetic, and caring. Sadly, he had his issues with addiction and seemed to have burned many bridges during his days of angst. He destroyed Mallory and Mitch’s mailbox, took advantage of Bud’s apartment, and can’t get along with Allison. To be fair, the bad things we see him doing nowadays are nowhere close to the bad things he’s done in the past.

3 BRIANNA – DOESN’T PAY BRIANNA FOR HER HARD WORK

Brianna is the older sister to Mallory and the first child for Robert and Grace. She’s independent, witty, educated, and strong. She quite literally doesn’t need anyone else in this world because her pride will always be in the way.

As inspiring as Brianna may be for women everywhere, her strong-willed and sarcastic attitude gets her into a lot of trouble. She doesn’t pay Mallory when she starts interning at Say Grace (even though she’s a mother of four), she refuses her mother’s help when Say Grace is in trouble, she joins Frankie in going through Sheree’s apartment, she hurts Barry on multiple occasions, and she makes changes to Frankie’s lube. Brianna is a tough gal but acting soft at times could help her.

2 BARRY – WORKS FOR HIS GIRLFRIEND’S NEMESIS

Sweet Barry is Brianna’s boyfriend. The two met when he was an accountant at Say Grace and began dating after a lube experiment. He’s the one guy who isn’t intimidated by her fearlessness and can handle her wild family dynamic. But just because Barry is a gentle giant doesn’t mean he hasn’t done anything to hurt Brianna or her family. He quits Say Grace to work with Brianna’s nemesis, Lauren, which was a hard transition for the couple — especially when Lauren takes Barry under her wing and tries to buy Say Grace. He also says silly things when he’s around Grace because she intimidates him.

1 ROBERT – CHEATS ON GRACE AND CUTS OFF HER CREDIT CARD

Robert has really softened over the past five seasons. Thanks to Sol, he has gotten in touch with a whole new side of himself that he’s been suppressing for years. His new marriage gave him a second chance at life, which is inspiring for anyone. Sadly, it wasn’t without consequence. He cheated on his wife and mother of his children for over 20 years, he cut off her credit card after he announced he was leaving her, he later compares Sol’s poor fashion sense to Grace’s chicness, and forgets to mention Sol in his Tappys speech. Robert is a stand-up guy but his moments of weakness are glaring.
