Warning! Spoilers ahead for The Green Lantern: Season Two #12 from Grant Morrison and Liam Sharp

In the latest issue of Grant Morrison’s The Green Lantern: Season Two from DC Comics, Hal Jordon just used every Power Battery in the DC Multiverse. When the perpetually medieval fantasy world known as Athmoora gets embroiled into the Ultrawar, one of the greatest Green Lanterns (Jordan) steps in to orchestrate a ceasefire, sacrificing himself as a hero by attempting one of the most impressive feats for a Lantern.

The Ultrawar is a conflict involving the Emotional Spectrum on a subatomic level, as well as the multiverse. Seeing as how Hal Jordan has had multiple identities and titles over the years, the Young Guardians believed him to be a perfect candidate for the battle ahead, and they upgraded his ring and lantern as a result. While Hal tried to take a vacation beforehand on Athmoora and play at being an Emerald Knight, his actions brought the Ultrawar and the Golden Giants to the world, as well as his old foe Hector Hammond. However, thanks to some quick thinking on Hal’s part, he managed to defeat the threat of the energy-consuming Giants in the Ultrawar without fighting.

Due to the Golden Giants’ respect for the sheer power of will Jordan possess in The Green Lantern: Season Two #12, he’s able to open a dialogue with them and manages to convince them to leave Athmoora and never consume inhabited worlds ever again, provided he can grant them with an unlimited power source that’s long been lost: the Cosmic Grail. However, in order to deliver on his deal, Hal Jordan has to synchronize and draw energy from every Power Battery in the multiverse. With his upgraded ring and a recitation of the Green Lantern’s oath to synch them all together with rhyme and rhythm, Hal Jordan attempts just that in the issue from Grant Morrison and Liam Sharp.

While the impressive act could have very well killed him, Hal Jordon’s will was as indomitable as ever and he was successful in his task, effectively removing the Golden Giants from the board of the Ultrawar without any need for further conflict. However, it did require shutting down the Intelligence Engine that had been keeping Athmoora in a medieval state, which was limiting the world’s ability to advance and evolve. While it does mean that Hal will eventually lose his immersive Game of Thrones-style vacations, it does seem as though it’s morally for the best.

While Hal Jordan has done quite a lot during his superhero career in the DC Universe, synching every Power Battery there is across realities has to be up there as one of the most epic things Green Lantern’s ever done. It just goes to show just how powerful he is thanks to his immense willpower and determination to always find a way to win and succeed. In any case, here’s hoping the Green Lantern’s light is prepared to keep shining as the Ultrawar continues from Grant Morrison and DC Comics.
