Green Lantern Secretly Has All The Flash’s Powers, Too

While the Green Lanterns are known for their constructs, they may have stolen the Flash’s greatest power. Contrary to popular belief, the power rings are capable of more than just firing laser beams or making giant green boxing gloves to punch with-with enough willpower, a Green Lantern ring is capable of doing anything that the user imagines, no matter how absurd the request might be. With enough training, a Green Lantern could even gain the Flash’s most underrated powers.

Although there have been multiple Green Lanterns over the years, all of them draw their power from the same source-the Central Power Battery on Planet Oa. As long as a lantern’s ring has enough energy, then there’s no limit to what kinds of constructs they can create. But constructs are just the beginning of what a Lantern Ring is capable of-it’s better to think of the ring as a miniature version of Marvel’s infinity gauntlet. Using the ring, Green Lantern is capable of doing nearly everything that The Flash can do using the Speed Force-this includes the power to become intangible and teleport across space instantly. Lantern rings can also make the user travel through space at super speed. After all, the Green Lantern’s home base is located in the center of the universe, so every GL needs the speed to travel there as fast as possible. In fact, Lantern Rings are so strong that at one point in Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #28 the Titular Hal Jordan managed to move so fast he nearly tapped into the Speed Force himself!

But super speed is only part of what makes the Flash so powerful. What is arguably the Speed Force’s greatest power is the ability to manipulate time itself a power that the Green Lanterns are capable of. This power rarely shows up in the modern era but Time Travel used to be an essential part of the Green Lantern Mythos. In fact, during the Silver Age of comics, Hal Jordan would occasionally travel into the future in the 58th century and moonlight as a different superhero named Pol Manning.

It’s important to remember that while Hal Jordan is responsible for some of the most ridiculous displays of power in Green Lantern history nothing he does with the ring is unique. Technically speaking, anyone deemed worthy of a Green Lantern ring could do what Jordan doe,s so long as they can muster up the necessary amounts of willpower. In other words, every single Green Lantern alive also has the potential to tap into the Speed Force if they trained themselves hard enough.

With such an absurd amount of power, Green Lantern could rank as one of DC’s most powerful superheroes of all time. Originally the one thing holding backs members of the Green Lantern Corps was the yellow weakness, but this weakness no longer exists after the fear entity Parallax was removed from the Central Power battery during Geoff Johns’ 2004 Green Lantern run. Fortunately for the rest of the universe, the Green Lantern Corps have remained on the side of good, because with all their power plus the Flash’s, no one wants to see the powers of a Green Lantern Ring fall into the hands of evil.
