Cristina, Derek, and Preston are characters that have left the show by now. But fans of the show will definitely remember these amazing and beloved characters.

Most fans argue that Meredith and Cristina are friendship goals considering how fun, competitive, yet loving their relationship was. Theirs was a long-lasting female friendship that was exciting to watch. Some other fans think Derek and Preston had their moments as well. There are some reasons why both are true.

10 Meredith & Cristina – Only Cristina Can Get Meredith To Calm Down

Despite Meredith and Cristina’s fight, it is only Cristina who is able to stop Meredith from crying. After having witnessed the execution, Meredith completely breaks down. Derek tries to take care of her but has to accept defeat. He entails Cristina’s help and Cristina is ready in a second to help her best friend. This scene shows the viewers the intensity of their friendship, of how even Derek isn’t able to help Meredith the way Cristina can. And it also shows viewers how quickly Cristina is willing to put away their differences to help her friend.

9 Derek & Preston – They Are Competitive Friends

Derek and Preston were both initially vying for the spot of the Chief. This ensures that there is healthy competition between them. Their interactions are fun to watch because viewers get to see snide comments and sarcastic statements being passed. This does not mean they are cut-throat competitors. They are able to work together as well but keep up the healthy competition going always. They also keep trying to one-up each other’s surgeries to show how they are more impressive than the other.

8 Meredith & Cristina – Meredith Is Cristina’s Person

This sort of complete loyalty, trust, and love are usually reserved for the romantic interest on television or in movies. But Cristina doesn’t let herself be that vulnerable to any of her significant others. She reminds Meredith time and again how Meredith is her person.

That Meredith is the person she’d call if she had killed someone, to hide the body. This goes beyond the usual “bro-code” that is shown in male friendships. Cristina and Meredith have a bond that is extremely special in this way.

7 Derek & Preston – Nothing Brings People Together Like A Bomb

“As We Know It” is an episode from the second season of the show. Towards the end of the episode, there is an iconic shot of both of them walking out from inside the elevator. And it is the first time they refer to each other by their first names. This episode solidifies the friendship between these two characters. The life-or-death situation caused by the bomb requires for Derek and Preston to work well together, and they do. This highly dramatic episode has many nice moments between these two characters.

6 Meredith & Cristina – Dark And Twisty And Tequila And Dancing

Meredith and Cristina are not sunny, happy, positive, optimistic people. They probably are the straight opposite of that. They are friends who acknowledge that sometimes they are just sad and unhappy. They don’t force each other out of dark spaces and dark times. They don’t feel the need to appear shiny and bright. In fact, they understand each other’s “dark and twisty” natures. They drink it out and dance it out. For surgeons, there is nothing more important than their hands. When Burke gets shot at in the second season, Derek has to perform surgery on Preston’s shoulder. This surgery poses a high risk as it could damage his nerves, causing problems to the functioning of his hands.

Yet Derek is adamant to make sure he does his best. This is one of those occasions when the life of a friend is literally in the hands of another friend, and it requires confidence on both sides to pull it off.

4 Meredith & Cristina – Nothing Beats Kicking The Boyfriend Out Of Bed

One of the most fan-favorite scenes in the show is when Cristina shows up at Meredith’s house and bedroom unexpectedly early in the morning. Meredith never turns her away. And Cristina knows she can walk into her house, and into her room at any point. The level of comfort between these two friends is aspirational. Neither Meredith nor Cristina mind the fact that Derek is pushed out of the bed, out of the room, because everyone knows who has priority. This is the ultimate showcase of how the two are friendship goals.

3 Derek & Preston – “Your Girlfriend Is My Ex-Girlfriend’s Best Friend”

Derek and Preston have really funny and amusing back and forths. Initially, Preston refuses to address Derek by his first name and doesn’t allow Derek to call him by his first name either. In this fun exchange, Derek tries to make his case as to why they should be on a first-name basis. But Preston, in his deadpan manner, says no. They eventually do get on a first-name basis and become good friends but these exchanges earlier on show the fun aspects of their friendship.

2 Meredith & Cristina – They Want To Tell Each Other Things First

Meredith and Cristina are very particular about their friendship. So much so that Cristina refuses to let Preston announce their engagement, before she tells about it to Meredith. There is no one else she wants to tell, and she wants Meredith to be the first one to hear.

They are so invested in this friendship and care deeply about keeping each other in the loop about the big and small moments in their life. The characters on the show, as well as the viewers, understand this dynamic between both of them.

1 Derek & Preston – They Confide In Each Other

Derek confides in Preston about how Meredith almost drowned in their bathtub. He shares his worries and concerns with him. Preston reciprocates this by telling him about his engagement with Cristina. By this point, viewers can clearly see that they are good friends. They are able to confide in each other things they can’t tell others around them. And it is big things as well that they are telling each other. This goes to prove that they are more than just superficial friends, but are actually friends who can tell each other things.
