Grey’s Anatomy: 5 Ways Teddy And Owen Work (& 5 They Just Don’t)

The relationship and wedding of Teddy and Owen has been in the making for many seasons now on Grey’s Anatomy. With their new child together, fans had assumed that they would finally get the happily after they deserved. But it has been one complication after the next, and the relationship between these two seems to be on the rocks.

Their wedding was called off, and it seems to be unclear what will happen to their relationship. Viewers are hoping for some conclusion or closure at least by the end of season 17 because they do believe that both deserve happiness after everything they have endured. But whether they want them to be together or not is up for debate…

10 They Work: Been Friends Forever

Teddy Altman and Owen Hunt were the best of friends. Teddy was introduced in season 6 as Hunt’s friend from his army days. Right from then, they become close again and shared a friendship that was built on a strong foundation, based on their recent history. They rely on and understand each other in ways that no one else could. In Grey’s lingo, Teddy is Owen’s person.

9 They Don’t: Teddy Hated Owen When Her Husband Died

Teddy doesn’t hold back when she lashes out at Owen for an extended period of time after her husband’s death. She actively hates him to the extent that she is unable to even work with him after that incident.

What’s worse is that Owen never really believed the love between the two of them was genuine. He was often seen to dismiss it as fantastical, which always riled Teddy up. It should have been clear then that this was a wound that would never fully heal.

8 They Work: They’ve Always Been In Love With Each Other

It is also quite evident from Teddy’s first introduction to the show that she was in love with Owen. But Owen and Cristina were in a relationship then, and Owen had to choose one of them. Ultimately, Owen ended up choosing Cristina over Teddy.

But that didn’t mean the chemistry between disappeared. In fact, it was very noticeable and it became clear to everyone that they have always been in love with each other.

7 They Don’t: Teddy Cheated On Him

Everything was falling into place for them. They were engaged, and they had an adorable family with two kids. But Teddy sleeps with Tom Koracick on the day of their wedding.

And even worse, she accidentally leaves Owen a voice note in the middle of it. She breaks Owen’s heart and insults him as well, with the entire OR hearing it happening as well. There is no way that they come back from this.

6 They Work: They’re A Good Team

Teddy and Owen are amazing surgeons. They work well together and have a very good rhythm while working together as well. Owen gives up his position as Head of Trauma for her even.

They also are very mutually understanding, with Owen taking paternity leave and giving Teddy the opportunity to return back to the hospital more quickly.

5 They Don’t: Teddy Dealing With Her History

Teddy has been a mess for a while now. With the flashback to Teddy’s past, viewers get a glimpse of her earlier relationship and the complicated mess it was as well. With this was a relatively new revelation, Teddy definitely needs to deal with all of the complications that she has set up.

She also has to acknowledge and deal with her past, which she was only begun to do now. Dealing with all of this is definitely of higher priority for Teddy, and so it is quite evident to viewers that Teddy will have to deal with herself first, before even attempting to mend things with Owen.

4 They Work: They Have Kids Together

Teddy and Owen have two kids and they are wonderful parents to both of them. Both Leo and Allison are beloved, and Teddy and Owen will definitely put aside any personal differences they have for the sake of their kids.

Owen especially is determined on making the kids his number one priority, and so will definitely go to great lengths to keep the family together.

3 They Don’t: Teddy & Tom

Teddy and Tom Koracick were in a relationship that was quite fun. They had good chemistry and genuinely enjoyed each other’s company. It seemed like Tom was genuinely making an effort for Teddy, but Teddy had gone ahead and chosen Owen over him.

Even though she broke his heart, the sparks between them remain, and with Tom being unwell as well, there is a good chance that Teddy and Tom might rekindle their relationship.

2 They Work: They Want It To Work

Even though Teddy is lost and confused, and is judging herself for her actions, she still wants to be with Owen. She knows that she’s hurt him, but she loves him and their family. And so does Owen.

They both want it to work. Owen, even after knowing what has happened between her and Tom, chose to give her a chance to explain herself, proving that he’s still willing to try.

1 They Don’t: It Is Falling Apart

The midseason finale of season 17 ended with Owen walking away from Teddy, who has just recounted her past to him. And considering the terrible heartbreaks that Owen has already been through, it seems difficult to believe that Owen will continue in this relationship after Teddy hurt him so much, and in such a public manner. Their relationship seems as good as ended in episode 6 of season 17.
