Players should make sure Franklin keeps his hands off his grenades when walking Chop in Grand Theft Auto 5. Franklin is one of the three protagonists in GTA 5, a street thug who dreams of becoming something more. Chop is a handsome Rottweiler who belongs to Lamar Davis, Franklin’s closest friend, in the game. When local gang members are hassling Lamar, he gifts Chop to Franklin out of concern for the dog’s safety. Chop remains in Franklin’s care for the majority of Grand Theft Auto 5.

After players receive Chop in GTA 5’s story mode, he can be identified on the in-game map by a bone icon. Franklin can play tug-of-war and fetch with Chop, which increases the dog’s happiness. Players can teach this old dog some new tricks, including how to fist bump, through GTA 5’s iFruit app, where players can also customize Chop’s collar.

One other way GTA 5 players can get Chop’s tail wagging is by taking him for walks. However, Franklin should be careful where he walks Chop, as the poor dog isn’t good at avoiding oncoming traffic and is also known to fall into water bodies and eventually drown. While loveable, Chop clearly hasn’t been gifted with the best AI Grand Theft Auto 5 has to offer. Players should also refrain from lobbing any grenades while walking Chop, as it can lead to some unpleasant results.

GTA 5’s Chop Will Play Fetch With Grenades

All dogs love a good game of fetch, and Chop in GTA 5 is no different. However, if Franklin throws a grenade while walking Chop, the poor Rottweiler will mistake it for a ball and go running after it, which, unsurprisingly, can result in the animal getting hurt and even dying. This is likely a glitch caused by the fact that the ball Franklin and Chop play fetch with is in the same category as grenades within GTA 5. Therefore, Chop’s AI is unable to distinguish between a harmless ball and a live grenade, and will chase both with equal excitement.

However, knowing Rockstar, this may not be a glitch at all. Grenades and balls for dogs are relatively the same shape, and a dog would obviously not understand what a grenade is or the danger it represents. Especially after being trained to retrieve a thrown object, it’s not surprising Chop would try and return something like a grenade to his master. Honestly, it seems like a mistake any dog would make. Luckily, for Grand Theft Auto 5 players, if they do kill Chop by chucking a grenade while walking him, he will respawn, though his happiness level will drop to zero. This interesting glitch does beg the question, what kind of GTA 5 player thinks it is a good idea to toss grenades around a dog in the first place?
