No, a GTA 6 reveal trailer is hasn’t been announced, but a recent music video from popular musical artist The Weeknd had many people questioning whether there was one on the way. Fans of the Grand Theft Auto franchise have been anticipating the reveal of GTA 6 for quite a few years, but developer Rockstar Games is still keeping a tight lid on any news of the next game in the series.

Players have been running and gunning on the island of Los Santos for over seven years since GTA 5 was released in 2013 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Since then, it has been ported over to the PS4 and Xbox One, and will also see an extended lifespan on the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Over the years, GTA 5 has received multiple content updates and has maintained a massive player base, but one question has been left unanswered: When will GTA 6 be released?

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Fans of the series are so desperate for a GTA 6 reveal they have searched the depth of the internet for any morsel of a clue that will confirm the game’s pending existence. Thanks to a handful of frames in a recent music video from The Weeknd, GTA fans donned their tinfoil hats and started to speculate. In the animated music video for The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,” various blurbs of text fly around a CG Abel Tesfaye. At the 56 second mark of the video, a couple of frames contain text in the upper left-hand corner of the screen that read “GTA 6 Trailer.”

These few milliseconds led quite a few people to believe that a GTA 6 trailer was imminent – and for some reason using a music video to advertise its existence – but that is not the case. It was later revealed that all of the text blurbs that appear in the music video are user comments from the original “Blinding Lights” video. In the YouTube comments for that video, there are plenty of The Weeknd fans who believe that “Blinding Lights” should be the in GTA 6 trailer. While this debunks the GTA 6 trailer reveal coming from The Weeknd, it doesn’t mean there couldn’t be a reveal sometime in the near future.

This would have been a neat way to secretly reveal that a trailer for GTA 6 was inbound. Similar to how Phil Spencer had the Xbox Series S on his bookshelf for months and no one noticed, this would have been a sneaky way to let eagle-eyed fans know what was coming. Sadly, it was just another fan of both video games and pop music expressing their opinion and raising the hopes of GTA fans only to let them down once the truth was revealed.
