At the end of this month, Rockstar Games will unleash GTA+, an all-new Grand Theft Auto Online membership program for players on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Rockstar is far from the first developer to add a subscription service to its pre-existing online game. Many may recall that Bethesda Game Studios launched Fallout 1st as a premium subscription model long after Fallout 76 hit store shelves.

Since its arrival nearly a decade ago, Grand Theft Auto Online has served as nothing short of a lucrative venture for Rockstar Games and parent company Take-Two Interactive. It explains why the experience launched in a standalone capacity for new-gen consoles earlier this month. Of course, the ongoing content updates keep players coming back for more, with the most recent of such updates going live late last year in the form of The Contract. This particular release brought GTA V protagonist Franklin Clinton back to the fore, along with an interesting story starring legendary rapper and producer Dr. Dre. It’s clear Rockstar still has bigger plans for its hit online suite, though.

A Rockstar Newswire post details the latest addition to Grand Theft Auto OnlineGTA+. As the name suggests, this constitutes a premium subscription plan that will offer easy access to a slew of benefits. The service launches on March 29 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms, boasting a $5.99 price tag and first-month membership bonuses for those who hop in early. Said bonuses will remain available from March 29 to April 27, offering up GTA$500,000 accessible in the Maze Bank account, waived LS Car Meet Membership fees, free paint jobs and emblems from the auto shop, and much more. Meanwhile, maintaining a GTA+ subscription guarantees a GTA$500,000 deposit each month, member-only discounts, special vehicle upgrades, in-game credit and RP bonuses, and exclusive rewards.

GTA+ members will also have the opportunity to claim Los Santos-based properties in GTA Online that “unlock gameplay updates” players may have previously missed out on. In addition, the subscription promises access to unique GTA+ Shark Cards, which net bonus cash from the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store. Fans will have to determine for themselves whether or not the content on offer warrants a $6 monthly payment to Rockstar and Take-Two.

Of course, GTA+ marks another way to line Rockstar’s already overly stuffed pockets. It also hammers home one simple truth – Grand Theft Auto Online isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Now the question is how the studio will justify the premium service’s existence long-term, especially in the wake of free-to-play models that arguably offer content of a higher value at a much lower entry fee.

Grand Theft Auto Online is playable on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.
