The upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Grand Theft Auto Online will feature a Special Works auto shop within the LS Car Meet, allowing users to unlock elite performance driving upgrades that take advantage of the horsepower behind current-gen consoles. Rockstar Games confirmed the news alongside details about GTA 5’s PS5 and Xbox Series enhancements, which include up to 4K visuals, HDR options, ray tracing, and platform-dedicated features like haptic feedback support for PS5’s DualSense.

Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive lifted the lid on Grand Theft Auto 5’s new-gen upgrades late last week and, in so doing, shared a March 2022 due date that finally put a stop to delay rumors and speculation. To the delight of much of the internet, the studio also confirmed that GTA 6 is indeed in production, though specific details about the eagerly-awaited title will likely remain under lock and key for a long time to come.

According to a Rockstar Newswire post, Grand Theft Auto Online will make the most of the latest consoles, as well. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S iterations of the online suite will feature a newly created auto shop located in GTA Online’s LS Car Meet. Known as Hao’s Special Works, the forthcoming auto shop will allow players to upgrade five new vehicles and five existing cars with elite performance driving upgrades at launch. The blog post doesn’t detail what exactly these upgrades will offer, but notes the driving performance boosts should take “full advantage” of the PlayStation 5’s and Xbox Series X/S’ horsepower.

Since the write-up from Rockstar Newswire teases that 10 cars will be eligible for elite driving upgrades at launch, reason suggests more vehicles will receive performance boosts in future GTA Online updates. As always, however, Rockstar Games remains quiet on the specifics, even with regards to what the elite driving enhancements entail. The new versions of GTA 5 and GTA Online go live in just over a month, so it’s possible concrete information could begin surfacing sooner rather than later.

Notably, GTA 5‘s recent The Contract update constitutes its most recent update of consequence. The story-driven content launched in December 2021, reintroducing players to GTA 5 protagonist Franklin Clinton and Chop the dog while positioning Dr. Dre at the center of the narrative. Many fans maintain The Contract would have worked best as single-player DLC, yet it seems as though Rockstar Games is disinterested in exploring such content releases for its ever-changing online game.

Grand Theft Auto Online is playable now across PC, PS4, and Xbox One; the multiplayer suite hits PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on March 15.
