One Grand Theft Auto Online player loading into a lobby has discovered an obscure glitch, turning their character completely invisible and preventing them from being seen. Similar to Easter eggs, glitches are an important aspect of GTA and Rockstar Games’ history, becoming widely popularized with the studio’s first groundbreaking 3D sandbox title in the series, Grand Theft Auto III. While commonly giving GTA titles a more comical approach and being used for entertainment, a considerable amount of glitches have caused all types of issues for players over the years, especially in Grand Theft Auto Online, ranging from the game crashing due to weapon switching, to the disappearance of valuable items that are required to complete certain missions.

Grand Theft Auto 5‘s online multiplayer mode continues to receive major updates and features that add new content and expand the world and gameplay. The title recently saw renewed interest thanks to the launch of GTA Online’s The Contract update, which welcomed fan-favorite characters GTA 5‘s Franklin and Chop. The update also added some star power with the addition of Dr. Dre, along with new music from the rapper. Appealing to GTA 5 fans, The Contract also seems to answer questions about the game’s ending, including the fate of Michael De Santa.

Shared on Reddit, user Stringypond53 posted a clip of what appears to be an obscure glitch that turns Grand Theft Auto Online players completely invisible and unseeable. During the short clip, the player can be seen being loaded into one of the game’s numerous lobbies near the docks with no character model. Appearing to be completely shocked, the user is seen moving the camera and looking around to see if there’s a way to make their character reappear. While it’s unknown if the GTA Online glitch is reoccurring or temporary due to insta-spawning into a match, it appears new, and even entering vehicles doesn’t return the character’s visibility.

New glitches usually come through the implementation of updates for online games, and Grand Theft Auto Online‘s issues seem to come about due to extensive patches that add content. Following The Contract update, players discovered a gate glitch in Grand Theft Auto Online that instantly kills players before launching them into the air. Unlike the invisibility glitch, however, players often seek out these types of bugs and try to duplicate them for entertainment purposes, though this could become the case if the invisibility bug can be replicated.

GTA Online‘s numerous glitches are due to coding errors, and bigger and more complex games can contain many bugs. These bugs can only be identified if found, and seeing how each Grand Theft Auto game features massive open-worlds, sometimes they’re concealed for years. With Grand Theft Auto Online continuing to expand with each update, more glitches are expected to pop up in the future, so players can expect more random occurrences as the game grows. It’s hoped that serious game-breaking bugs, like the invisibility glitch, will be quickly fished out and fixed in a future GTA Online patch.

Grand Theft Auto Online is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
