Grand Theft Auto radio host and writer Lazlow Jones has left Rockstar, with fans discovering that he has not been at the company since April 2020. He provided the voice for the radio hosts of stations such as V-Rock and Chattersphere in various Grand Theft Auto games.

Although his name might not be familiar to players, Jones has had a big influence on Grand Theft Auto. He first joined Rockstar in 2001 and contributed to Grand Theft Auto 3, acting as the Chatterbox FM radio host as well as writing dialogue for other stations. In future games in the series, he has continued his role as DJ and host along with directing, writing, and producing. Jones also played a part in the development of other Rockstar series such as Bully and Red Dead Redemption.

Lazlow Jones has left Rockstar after almost 20 years at the gaming company. A YouTube channel known as GTAMen discovered that Jones’ LinkedIn was updated in April of this year to show that he was no longer employed at the developer. Exactly why he has left is not clear and Rockstar has made no official announcement about the departure. However, an earlier Instagram post did make reference to the fact he is now caring for his sister, who has been diagnosed with cancer. This might explain why he has stepped away from the Grand Theft Auto studio. According to his LinkedIn page, Jones is now working with Disney and Netflix on a variety of projects.

“I am currently working on several projects, including development of shows for Disney and Netflix, consulting for a video game company and collaborating with a writer/director from Comedy Central and an Emmy winning producer and director formerly of Dreamworks.”

The legendary radio host is not the only high-profile departure from Rockstar in recent times. Just a month before Jones left the company, co-founder and fellow writer Dan Houser also announced he was leaving. Houser played a leading role in the development of Grand Theft Auto games and his sudden announcement was a shock. However, his brother and co-founder Sam Houser remains at Rockstar, acting as the president for the company.

Just like with the departure of Dan Houser, the fact that Lazlow Jones has left Rockstar will raise questions about the development of future Grand Theft Auto games. If the radio host is no longer at the developer it will likely mean he won’t appear in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6, which looks to be set in Vice City. That will be a big miss as the character has become a fan favorite for his hilarious dialogue.
