A new Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy game update adds several features like save rollback for chapter restarts, ray tracing on PS5 and Xbox Series X, and an uncapped framerate option on Xbox Series S. The single-player Marvel game puts players in control of Peter Quill, the space outlaw known as Star-Lord who serves as the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Upon its release in October, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy received high praise for its tactical gameplay, emotional narrative and abundance of Marvel Comics Easter eggs.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy takes Star-Lord and company through a large-scale sci-fi story. The space-faring team of heroes are only recently assembled, leading to a narrative filled with conflict against other factions and amongst themselves. Dialogue options allow players to make tactical decisions throughout the experience, and these choices can have consequences both minor and major. During combat players are also tasked with giving orders to the other four Guardians, with strategy and synergy being the key to winning any battle. The game features other cosmic heroes as well, with familiar faces ranging from the wacky Mantis to GotG’s mysterious Adam Warlock.

Sharing the full patch notes on Reddit, developer Eidos-Montréal revealed a Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy patch has rolled out. The patch fixes many major and minor problems, reducing the chance of players encountering annoying or game-breaking bugs. Considerable quality-of-life changes are also included, such as an optional Ray Tracing Mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X to improve the game’s lighting and reflections. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy’s PS4 version performance has been improved, while Xbox Series S owners can now enjoy an uncapped framerate option. Perhaps the most notable new addition to the game is a Save Rollback feature, which will allow players to restart a chapter should they encounter a game-breaking bug or otherwise get stuck in the story.

While no post-launch content has been announced for the intergalactic action game, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was patched once prior to this most recent update. The first patch mostly served to fix numerous glitches that were present upon release. Eidos-Montréal’s title was fairly criticized for having a wide number technical issues at launch, with many players finding themselves stuck at various points and unable to progress further into the game. The first update also made notable changes to Star-Lord’s navigation, but the game’s newer patch features many more quality-of-life improvements than the first one.

Thanks to its focus on single-player narrative and addicting gameplay, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy has managed to win over a wide audience of players. Eidos-Montréal’s title tells a story that is both emotional and lighthearted, capturing the essence of Marvel’s outer space outlaws. While no DLC or expansion have been mentioned so far, updates and patches like this one are smoothing out the experience while introducing some much-appreciated changes and additions.
