Here’s Guardians Of The Galaxy’s cut pit boss character explained. James Gunn had quite the genre career before heading to the MCU, getting his start with Troma before scripting the likes of 2004’s Dawn Of The Dead remake and the first two Scooby-Doo movies. While he was in line to helm a canceled sequel in the latter franchise, he made his actual directorial debut with 2006’s gory horror-comedy Slither, starring Elizabeth Banks and Michael Rooker.

Guardians Of The Galaxy was easily his biggest movie up to that point and centered on the ragtag crew of the title. He assembled a great cast – including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista – and its colorful humor and surprising warmth made it a huge hit in 2014. Gunn and the cast later returned for Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017, which added actors like Kurt Russell and Pom Klementieff to the ensemble. While the reviews weren’t quite as warm, with critiques focused on its somewhat meandering narrative, it was another huge success.

James Gunn often finds cameos for his friends in his work, with Rob Zombie’s voice appearing all his movies to date, including voicing “God” in 2010’s Super. For Guardians Of The Galaxy, everyone from Nathan Fillion – who voices a nasty inmate – to Troma founder Lloyd Kaufman made appearances. Any major blockbuster will often feature numerous deleted scenes or characters cut for the sake of runtime, and shortly after the movie’s release Gunn took to Instagram to detail a character who was largely snipped out of the movie.

#gotgpicoftheday One of the tough things about making a film is sometimes you have to cut performances from the film, not because there was anything wrong with the performance, but for time or plotting reasons. Such was the case with @maramacorlett, who played the pit boss running the Orloni-F’saki table in the Boot of Jemiah. She was amazing, learning all of her lines in a foreign language we created. Although you can still see her in the film her part was drastically cut down because of pacing. However her character didn’t die, so who knows where the pit boss could show up again! Here @realbautista rubs her head like he did in the cut scene from the movie, irritating her while drunk. #gotg #guardiansofthegalaxy

This was a pit boss character running a table at the Boot of Jemiah bar the group visit when they arrive at Knowhere. This character was played by Marama Corlett (Strike Back), who Gunn praised for learning all her dialogue in an alien language, and in the snipped scene a drunken Drax rubbed her head. While the character can still be spotted in Guardians Of The Galaxy, most of Corlett’s role was cut out of the final movie.

Gunn did say that maybe the character could return in a future movie, though since Knowhere was largely destroyed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, its doubtful she will reappear in a future Guardians Of The Galaxy – that said, Gunn could easily cast the actress in a different role. After finishing up sequel/soft reboot The Suicide Squad, James Gunn will return to direct Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3, which will end the trilogy.
