During today’s State of Play broadcast, Bandai Namco Entertainment showcased another look at its upcoming multiplayer shooter, Gundam Evolution. Bandai Namco announced the title last summer, promising to treat fans to the first free-to-play Mobile Suit first-person shooter. A team-based experience akin to Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch, Gundam Evolution pits two teams of six against each other as they fight to complete objectives.

The objectives in Gundam Evolution vary based on the choice of game mode. One mode known as Point Capture, for example, tasks teams with capturing points from the opposing side. Meanwhile, in the Destruction game mode, players must stop their opponents from assembling a weapon of mass destruction lest the weapon be used against them. In short, Gundam Evolution promises a thrill ride filled to the brim with high-octane action and the core tenets of the ever-popular Mobile Suit Gundam. Whether or not Bandai Namco will deliver on said promise remains a mystery for the time being, but the company did just unveil new footage that should excite many a Gundam fan.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Today, March 9, PlayStation hosted its second State of Play stream of 2022, a broadcast mostly centered around experiences coming from Japanese publishers. Bandai Namco Entertainment occupied the screen for a brief period of time, showcasing yet another look at its upcoming free-to-play shooter, Gundam Evolution. The roughly 90-second trailer unveiled a mix of gameplay and cinematics, which offered a quick glimpse at each of the title’s three competitive modes – Point Capture, Domination, and, lastly, Destruction. Bandai Namco closed the trailer by confirming that a network test for PS4 and PS5 players in the United States and Japan will go live on an unspecified date this spring. See the new footage below:

While the above gameplay trailer for Bandai Namco’s Overwatch-style shooter closes with a network test announcement, details about its full release presently remain under lock and key. When the publisher will begin sharing more concrete information is anyone’s guess. At the very least, some Gundam fans can expect to get their hands on the title in the weeks ahead.

Of course, players looking to scratch a hero shooter itch have plenty of options from which to choose. Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends is still going strong, for instance, thanks to updates that regularly give users a reason to jump back in for more. Valorant, the free-to-play hero shooter from Riot, continues to excite its active players, as well. How Gundam Evolution will stack up against these behemoths should prove interesting.
