Hades is a fun action roguelike which has been in early access for a while and now has finally seen its official release. The player takes on the role of Zagreus, Prince of the Underworld, who is trying to escape to the world of the living.

Escaping the underworld and beating the game is no easy task. Unless the player is particularly skilled, it will take multiple attempts to get there, with Prince Zagreus dying a bloody death each time. Luckily, as it takes place in the underworld, death is a temporary setback rather than a permanent thing. As the prince explores the randomly generated underworld, he will gather boons from Greek gods, items which can help him get stronger across playthroughs, and forge relationships with those to wish to help him in his escape.

Best Things to Do After Beating Hades

There are many things that can be achieved after beating the game.

  • Beat it again: Yes, this might be the most obvious answer. Beating the game multiple times leads to different dialogue between the characters, and beating it enough times even leads to the true ending.
  • Build up relationships: Players can build relationships with the other characters by talking with them, and giving them nectar. In fact, there are even a couple that can be romanced.
  • Get companions: The companions are obtained by obtaining a high level of affinity with certain characters, done by giving them nectar and talking with them, and then gifting them Ambrosia. What it does is gives Zagreus the ability to call upon them in battle, similar to the Call ability for the Olympian gods. What is different is that it can only be used a certain number of times per run, and some fights are restricted. For example, Companion Battie summons Megaera’s aid, but she won’t show up during the fight with Megaera (that would just be weird) or with one of the other furies.
  • Increase Mirror of Night talents: the mirror that Nyx gave to Zagreus allows him to upgrade his talents from his room. There are two sides to each talent, and it takes many Cthonic Keys and Darkness to unlock all the talents and upgrade them to max. Having better talents does make runs easier, which leads to . . .
  • Take on Pact of Punishment challenges: Upon beating the game for the first time, the next time Zagreus tries to escape there is a Pact of Punishment scroll above the window. This lets the player increase the difficulty. How they do this depends on their preference and build, but adding a level of heat resets the bounties that can be earned by defeating each of the four bosses, meaning they can get more Ambrosia, Diamonds, and Titan Blood.
  • Upgrade weapon aspects: Titan Blood, which can be obtained by defeating bosses, can be used to upgrade the weapons Zagreus uses on his escape attempts. Some of these aspects simply increase damage of certain skills, but some completely change how a weapon functions.
  • Complete the Fated List of Minor Prophecies: Once it has been unlocked in Zagreus’s Room by the House Contractor, the player has a list of objectives they should strive for. Chances are that they will still have a long list of unfulfilled prophecies left over even after beating the game. Time to get started on those, because they do offer some nice rewards for completing them.
  • Have fun messing around: Hades is a very challenging game. Managing to make it all the way through to beating the final boss is difficult. Chances are the player has a favorite weapon or tactics they employ to finally accomplish this. Now that they have beaten the game, it’s time to try different things and new tactics, because maybe they will find something that works better for them or is just so much fun. It brings a new spark to the game.

Hades is available now on Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Mac.
