The real-world Greek tragedy of Orpheus and Eurydice is a myth of love and loss. Orpheus, a great poet and musician of the ancient world, fell in love with and married Eurydice, another musician. When she died from an unexpected snake bite, Orpheus fell into mourning. Hearing his grief, the deities advised him to journey to the Underworld to retrieve Eurydice and bring her back to the world of the living.

Orpheus managed to gain the sympathies of Hades and Persephone with his beautiful music and was allowed to leave with Eurydice if he agreed not to look back at her until they’d both reached the surface. Details differ in variations of the myth, but, all the same, Orpheus fails, and Eurydice is pulled back down. Not until Orpheus later dies is he able to reunite with her in the Underworld.

How to Heal Orpheus and Eurydice’s Romance in Hades

In Hades, Orpheus is the court musician. He’ll appear after players commute his sentence by purchasing the Court Musician’s Sentence from the House Contractor. It costs one diamond, so it is available after defeating the Bone Hydra once. Eurydice, on the other hand, is found in Asphodel. Players should look for the chamber marked with an exclamation point, where she’s found singing in a cozy room. Now, the quest to reunite them can begin. Much of it involves progressing conversations and relationships with the characters, so it’s important for players to stock up on nectar for gifting.

Once Orpheus and Eurydice have been located, players should speak with them at each possible opportunity. Orpheus will ask Zagreus to tell Eurydice that he misses her, though at first, she’s upset. Players should keep speaking to them, and they’ll begin to mention Orpheus’ failed rescue attempt, which Eurydice is still resentful about. In time, and with enough nectar gifted to each, Orpheus will begin singing again, and Eurydice will warm to the idea of reuniting with him. Soon, Zagreus will invite Orpheus for drinks, and he’ll tell the story of his failure.

Next, players should talk to Nyx, who can locate Orpheus’ contract in the administrative chamber after she’s been gifted at least five nectar. The Administrative Privilege item becomes available after players complete enough story progress and once the Deluxe Desk is purchased for the House Contractor. Players should buy the desk to gain access to the admin chamber, and speak with Nyx and Hades whenever possible once Orpheus is singing again.

Nyx will eventually reveal the location of Orpheus’ file in the admin chamber, unlocking the Singer’s Gamble work order. Purchasing it for three diamonds will void Orpheus’ contract. Diamonds can be found by defeating the Bone Hydra with each weapon, and again at each successive heat level. Heat levels are only available after Hades has been completed once, though, so it can be difficult to get the necessary diamonds. Occasionally, the Wretched Broker will have trades for diamonds, so players should save up resources and it’ll be possible soon enough.

Orpheus is then free to reunite with Eurydice, and they’ll be found singing together in Asphodel. Despite all the time and resources it takes, this touching story is well worth the effort to complete.

Hades is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
