After nearly a decade of dormancy, Michael Myers returned for Halloween 2018, and one actor just wasn’t enough to play the iconic slasher. If one were to assemble a Mount Rushmore of horror villains, a good case could be made that Michael Myers should be on it. “The Shape” as he’s sometimes called, has stalked and slashed his way through eleven films at this point, with a twelfth and thirteenth on the way in the next two years. That’s more outings than managed by contemporaries Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, or Pinhead.

While no film gets universal praise in the age of social media, Halloween 2018 managed to do pretty well for itself, earning high marks from both horror fans and mainstream critics. Some even argued it was the best Halloween sequel to date, which is kind of amusing, since in Halloween 2018’s continuity, there were no other sequels. Director David Gordon Green and co-writer Danny McBride managed to reinvigorate both the Halloween franchise and its starring killer for a new generation, and look to continue with 2020’s Halloween Kills and 2021’s Halloween Ends.

Most Halloween films feature a single actor behind the infamous white William Shatner mask, outside of rare occasions where a crew member stands in for a pickup shot. Halloween 2018 bucked this trend though, featuring two distinct actors playing Michael Myers.

All Actors Who Play Michael Myers In Halloween 2018

For the majority of Halloween 2018, Michael Myers is portrayed by 62-year-old actor/stuntman James Jude Courtney, who’s actually right in line with the 61-years-old Michael would be according to Halloween‘s timeline. He’ll return to play Michael again in both Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends. Contrary to what some thought prior to Halloween 2018’s release, Courtney also plays Michael when he’s unmasked at Smith’s Grove Sanitarium early in the sequel/reboot. Tony Moran was the first face of Myers back in 1978, seen briefly near the end of John Carpenter’s original classic.

However, also suiting up as Michael Myers for select scenes in Halloween 2018 is Nick Castle, who played Michael in the vast majority of Carpenter’s Halloween. Castle is now 72, and one presumes he’s a bit too old to perform some of the action scenes Courtney was able to do. Castle primarily steps in as Michael when Haddonfield’s most wanted directly engages with Laurie Strode, as played by a returning Jamie Lee Curtis. Castle is also set to return as Michael in Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends, presumably in the same sharing arrangement he and Courtney operated under during Halloween 2018.
