A new image from Halloween Kills confirms the return of Deputy Frank Hawkins. Hawkins was introduced in David Gordon Green’s 2018 Halloween and was played by Will Patton. Deputy Hawkins was one of the more intriguing characters in 2018’s Halloween partly because of his history with Laurie Strode. Back in 1978, Hawkins was one of the officers involved in the apprehension of Michael, so the officer took the killer’s escape in 2018 just as seriously as Laurie did.

Towards the end of the movie, Dr. Sartain and Hawkins search for Michael Myers and stumble upon Laurie’s granddaughter, Allyson. After running Michael over with his car, Hawkins gets out to shoot him, but wanting to keep his patient alive, Sartain stabs Hawkins in the throat. As Sartain drives away with Michael and Allyson in the backseat, the doctor drives over Hawkins’ body. Given the severity of his injuries, it appeared that Hawkins was killed in Halloween, but it looks like he may have survived.

In a new image shared by Jamie Lee Curtis, Patton can be seen on the hospital set of Halloween Kills with director David Gordon Green. While praising Patton’s work in Minari and Green, the actress seemingly confirmed that Hawkins survived. Saying “Laurie and Hawkins. Were they? Will they?” also seems to be teasing that the two characters may have been romantically involved at one point.

Halloween Kills takes place directly after the events of its predecessor. However, it will also feature a flashback to 1978. The final trailer for Halloween Kills showed part of that scene, with Michael Myers being surrounded by Dr. Loomis and police officers. This scene will no doubt feature a young Frank Hawkins since he was on the scene when Michael was arrested, and Thomas Mann is believed to be playing the younger version of Patton’s character. With all that in mind, the above image confirms that Hawkins isn’t just returning in a flashback but actually survived his injuries.

In the month leading up to the sequel’s release date, Curtis has been sharing a lot of fun behind-the-scenes images from Halloween Kills. This image however contains potentially big spoilers if Laurie and Hawkins end up becoming romantically involved. Hawkins’ return may be controversial since his injuries in the last movie seemed lethal, but characters surviving impossible odds is a common horror movie trope. Seeing Laurie and Hawkins form a connection could also be good for Laurie’s character development. After all, very little of her life in the last 40 years was shown except for the flashbacks involving her daughter Karen. It isn’t known how big of a role Hawkins will play in Halloween Kills story, but it looks like Patton will get to share at least one more scene with Curtis.
