After many requests, Halo Infinite is getting new game modes and better challenges for its online matchmaking. Since Halo Infinite‘s multiplayer launched a month ago, players have been enjoying matches with friends on both Xbox consoles and PC thanks to the game’s cross-play multiplayer. With the multiplayer being free-to-play, players are encouraged to complete challenges that unlock boosts and cosmetics to customize their characters. However, when Halo Infinite launched, the progression system left players feeling stagnant because it took a long time to level up. It was not the only issue that needed to be adjusted.

Soon after Halo Infinite‘s multiplayer launched, criticism began to flood in. Fans who purchased the game’s Battle Pass felt cheated by the slow pacing in which EXP was distributed by completing challenges and matches. Particular challenges would require players to complete tasks that could only be achieved in specific game modes, which could not be chosen with the lack of custom matchmaking playlists. The inability to choose game modes caused many Halo Infinite fans to complain, but thankfully some of the complaints were sent to the Halo Support Site to help the developers improve the game.

Developer 343 Studios announced through Halo’s Twitter that starting with today’s update, Halo Infinite‘s multiplayer is receiving fan-requested playlists and further adjustments to the progression system. The tweet linked to the Halo Waypoint Blog Post details and outlines many adjustments fans have been hoping to see. Four new game modes have been added with the Social Playlist option. The four new matchmaking playlists include the 4v4 team deathmatch Team Slayer, the eight-player every Spartan for themselves Free-For-All, the no radar or shields battle rifle fan-favorite Tactical Slayer “SWAT,” and the recent event’s Fiesta mode while spawns 4v4 teams with random weapons.

Thanks to so many new gameplay options, the extra game modes will make completing Halo Infinite challenges much easier than before. Further adjustments included in the update remove specific challenges that players were having trouble completing, and 343 has replaced them with challenges that can be completed in any game type players choose to play. They promise that these first few updates are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to future plans and support that the developer has planned for Halo Infinite‘s Multiplayer over the next few years.

Halo fans now have the ability to be more selective when it comes to choosing their online matches. When the multiplayer first launched, players’ only matchmaking playlist options were Quickplay, Big Team Battle, Bot Bootcamp, and Ranked. With the lack of playlist customization, players were at Halo Infinite‘s mercy to complete battle pass challenges that could only be completed in specific game modes, which was an issue for someone with three challenges that they could only be complete by playing Oddball. Recent changes to the challenges and being able to choose which game type you want to play will fix that issue and keep Halo Infinite fans blasting each other.

Halo Infinite is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, and PC.
