Even though Halo Infinite has yet to launch, one fan recently speculated what the game might look like if Nintendo was developing the title for its Switch console. The next installment in the Halo series is scheduled to debut sometime in 2021 on Microsoft platforms, but no concrete release date has been revealed yet.

In today’s culture, the term fan art means so much more than artistic drawings and photographs of popular intellectual properties. Digital mediums in particular have given rise to many more avenues of artistic expression and fans have taken full advantage of these new opportunities, often showing their love for multiple intellectual properties in one piece of work. Some have even gone so far as to reimagine entire games, and recently one creator put their creative spin on a title that has not even been released yet.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Twitter user TheChunkierBean posted a short video that showcases a concept for Halo Infinite if it had been made by Nintendo. Running less than a minute, the clip depicts Master Chief in a Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild inspired setting with a similar color palette to the 2017 Game of the Year. Along the way, the player passes a few classic Halo vehicles as well as what appears to be a M41 SPNKR rocket launcher that can be used. This creation comes just a few days after E3 2021, where Halo Infinite was featured during Xbox’s showcase, as well as the sequel to Breath of the Wild.

While the aesthetic is significantly different from what Halo veterans might be used to, the reimagined take received quite a bit of praise in the Twitter comments, with a few expressing their interest in playing a game like this. The closest thing these gamers might get to something similar would likely come from Nintendo’s Metroid franchise, given the similarly helmeted nature of the two series’ protagonists and their sci-fi settings. A new installment for that series was announced during E3 2021 called Metroid Dread, but it does not appear Nintendo will be taking its sci-fi franchise to an open world with that entry, instead returning to the 2D format the older titles in the series are known for.

Sometimes fans can sway developer decisions without directly meaning to, and there is always a possibility that TheChunkierBean’s video could be such a catalyst. While Halo Infinite and future installments under the brand name will likely never move off of Microsoft platforms or experience such a drastic design change, Nintendo could potentially implement similar ideas into Metroid Prime 4. As the technology improves, game design will continue to evolve so that maybe one day there will be a colorful, open-world title like the one TheChunkierBean teased.

Halo Infinite arrives on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC this holiday.
