Halston: 10 Movies & TV Shows Starring The Cast

Netflix released the miniseries Halston on May 14, 2021, and brought the story of fashion designers to the streaming service. Along with this larger-than-life flamboyant designer, his cast of associates and contemporaries brought in some huge Hollywood names and faces to take on the roles in the series.

From the top, one of Hollywood’s bigger names took on the lead role, with Ewan McGregor starring as Halston himself. Additionally, some familiar faces portrayed names like film director Joel Schumacher, actress Liza Minnelli, and famed jewelry designer Elsa Peretti.

10 Ewan McGregor – Star Wars: The Phantom Menace

Ewan McGregor took on the title role in Halston. The famed designer made clothes for everyone from First Lady Jackie Kennedy and singer Liza Minnelli, as well as costumes for the musical Persephone. Actor Ewan McGregor has appeared in some of the biggest movies in cinema history, as he starred as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in all three movies in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. McGregor returns to the role in the Disney+ series based on his character.

9 Rebecca Dayan – Tesla

Rebecca Dayan took on the role of Elsa Peretti in Halston. Peretti is a jewelry designer and philanthropist who created pieces for Tiffany & Co. Before this, she worked as a Halston fashion model. Actress Rebecca Dayan is a French actress who had her biggest role in Halston. However, some fans might remember her from the critically acclaimed 2020 movie Tesla where she starred as another real-life celebrity in Sarah Bernhardt, who Tesla (Ethan Hawke) was obsessed with.

8 David Pittu – Law & Order: SVU

David Pittu stars in Halston as Joe Eula. He was the fashion illustrator who worked for Halston for a decade. Actor David Pittu has enjoyed a nice career, although mostly on television. Outside of minor roles in Men in Black 3 and Peter Jackson’s King Kong, viewers might recognize Pittu most from his role on Law & Order: SVU. While he only appeared in six episodes, it was as the same character each time, defense attorney Linus Tate.

7 Krysta Rodriguez – Daybreak

One of the most popular names in Halston was Liza Minnelli. At the time that Halston was coming up in the fashion world, Minnelli was a hugely successful singer and actress. Minnelli hung out in the same circles as Halston, part of the Studio 54 group, and eventually used his designs in her shows.

The actress who plays Minnelli is Krysta Rodriguez. She has appeared in several television shows such as the NBC series Smash and the AMC show Chasing Life. Most fans likely remember her from the Netflix series Daybreak as Mrs. Crumble, the former biology teacher now known as The Witch.

6 Bill Pullman – Independence Day

Next to Ewan McGregor, the most familiar face in Halston is likely Bill Pullman. Arguably, the biggest role of Pullman’s career came in 1996 when he starred as President Thomas J. Whitmore in the disaster movie Independence Day. That movie involved an alien invasion of Earth, with Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum as the leads. However, it was Pullman who delivered the speech to the nation that brought them all together for the ultimate attack against the alien forces.

5 Bill Pullman – The Sinner

In Halston, Pullman played David J. Mahoney, a business leader, and philanthropist. His place in the movie is telling Halston there is more to gain from selling a thousand items than just by selling one item. He looks drastically different, clean-shaven in Halston, from his most recent TV role. That role was as the grizzled detective Harry Ambrose in The Sinner. He is the main detective investigating cases that seem to have a clear suspect, but there is always something hiding under the surface.

4 Rory Culkin – Signs

Joel Schumacher was one of Hollywood’s top directors for many years. He directed major blockbusters like The Lost Boys and Batman & Robin and critical darlings like A Time to Kill and Falling Down. Before he got his start in Hollywood, he worked for Halston.

The actor playing Schumacher in Halston has two brothers more famous than him in Macaulay Culkin (Home Alone) and Kieran Culkin (Succession). Rory Culkin is best known for his role as a child actor in M. Night Shyamalan’s Signs.

3 Kelly Bishop – Gilmore Girls

Kelly Bishop stars as Eleanor Lambert in Halston. Lambert is known as the woman who helped increase the prominence of New York City as a fashion capital. As for the actress in the role, most people will remember Bishop from Gilmore Girls. She was the wealthy mother of Lorelai and grandmother of Rory on the series, an uptight woman who always cared more about how she appeared to others than anything.

2 Vera Farmiga – The Conjuring

Vera Farmiga is an Oscar-nominated actress who took on the fictional role of Adele in Halston. However, while she got her Oscar nomination for Up in the Air with George Clooney, she is best known for her work in horror. Farmiga was Norman Bates’ mother in Bates Motel but received most of her attention for her role as Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring and its sequels, which included the 2021 release of The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.

1 Mary Beth Peil – Dawson’s Creek

Mary Beth Peil showed up in Halston as Martha Graham. This was another 70s icon, as Graham was another Studio 54 friend of Halston that went on to great critical acclaim. Graham was a dance choreographer and schools still teach her Graham technique to this day. Peil is best known for her role on a popular TV show, as she played Evelyn “Grams” Ryan in Dawson’s Creek. She was Jen’s (Michelle Williams) grandmother and cared for her after she moved to town to straighten her life up.
