The animated series Harley Quinn is a raunchy, bloody, and very funny show about viewers’ favorite female villain as she breaks free from the Joker and makes her own way in Gotham. The show is filled with hilarious characters, each with their own quirks and traits, and this includes their own brand of humor.

Because of this, there are multiple jokes coming from every character in every episode. Almost all of these jokes are hilarious, but of course, some manage to stand out as the funniest, either for what the joke is about or how the line is delivered.

Commissioner Gordon, “Til Death Do Us Part”

“He Doesn’t Do That!”

This series’ Commissioner Jim Gordon is wonderfully haggard and chaotic, and when that attitude gets paired with his obsession for having a friendship with Batman, it turns into comedy gold. When Harley infers that Batman is intimate with bats, Gordon becomes incredibly distressed, yelling out how his idol and “best friend” doesn’t do that.

The delivery of this line by voice actor Christopher Meloni is what makes the joke so funny, as his panicked defensiveness really sells it. He is so quick to start yelling that Batman has to tell him to calm down. The quickness and energy of the scene’s dialogue really comes together to make a punchy and very funny quote.

The Joker, “The Final Joke”

“Where’s My Godd*mn Electric Car, Bruce?”

When Batman’s secret identity of Bruce Wayne is revealed to the Joker in season one, the joker feels suitably disappointed. In one of the show’s funniest moments, he yells out, “Now I know Batman is just some boring rich a**hole with parental issues.”

His horror builds to the point of hilarity, as the Joker reveals that he put down a deposit for an electric car that Wayne Tech promised would be out by that year. The fact that it isn’t out yet makes the Joker even madder, and he yells in Batman’s face, “Where’s my godd*mn electric car, Bruce?” The way he yells also makes the quote sound like a song, which makes it even funnier.

Rich Captain Rupert, “Til Death Do Us Part”

“Our Favorite Pastime: F*cking The Poor!”

The show has never been above social satire, and that is made clear in its very first episode. Before Harley and the Joker rob a boat full of rich people, viewers get to spend a little time with them first. The show pulls no punches, as the rich Captain of the ship named Rupert (who is actually the Joker in disguise) says this, and everyone else laughs loudly.

The quote is so on the nose that it sets the tone for the rest of the show’s comedy. It is a humorous way for the series to show that masked rebels like Harley Quinn aren’t the only villains in this world, the upper class is too.

Bane, “A High Bar”

“I’m Gonna Blow Up This Bar Mitzvah”

Bane is one of the show’s most underrated villains. The aforementioned line comes from one of Bane’s most notorious acts, blowing up Gotham stadium. He already mentions this, as it is revealed that he blew the stadium up because he got a sports bar quiz question wrong.

This is hilarious enough, but he builds on this joke, later threatening to blow up a child’s bar mitzvah simply because he is getting slightly made fun of during it. Not only that, he says the quote so grumpily that he sounds like a child.  Bane’s humor mainly comes from voice actor James Adomian, because even the way he says dramatic lines, such as “I will rise!” is incredibly funny.

Clayface, “Riddler U”

“I Don’t Know If I’m Ready To Be Chad’s Girlfriend.”

Clayface is an aspiring actor, which allows him to have many great bits throughout the show. The funniest is probably his role as Stephanie, a popular college girl who wants to audition for an acapella group and who is also having relationship drama with a boy named Chad.

“Stephanie” laments to her new friends about how Chad has given her the weekend to decide whether or not she wants to be his girlfriend, but she feels like her decision is being rushed, and that her heart is being pulled in different directions. The drama builds until finally Poison Ivy slaps her, reminding her that she isn’t actually Stephanie. Overall, it’s hilarious to watch.

Robin, “Finding Mr. Right”

“When Can I Start Having Sex?”

Batman’s relationship with Robin is very funny in this series, as it pairs this awkwardly stoic man with a bratty child, to cringy success. After fighting with Harley’s team and the Joker, Robin is downhearted, so Batman attempts to comfort him with some life lessons.

Seeing this Batman as a father figure is incredibly humorous, as he really does not seem fit for the job. So when his child suddenly asks him a very personal question, Batman becomes uncomfortable, and immediately makes an excuse to zipline away. It takes what is probably an awkward moment that every parent faces, and makes it very funny.

King Shark, “Thawing Hearts”

“OH MY GOD, IT’S BEYONCE!”

King Shark is often compared to his Suicide Squad counterpart. While the animated version’s comedic lines can often be hit or miss, when they hit, they really hit. When Harley and her crew are breaking into Mr. Freeze’s icy fortress to kill him, Mr. Freeze appears at his front door, a backlight behind him masking his silhouette. This makes him look like he’s a pop star opening up a concert, so King Shark screams out, “OH MY GOD, IT’S BEYONCE!”

This is so funny because it feels like it comes out of nowhere, and the speed and passion with which King Shark says this line will have anyone bust out laughing. It’s an iconic moment.

 Kiteman, Multiple Episodes

“Hell Yeah.”

While Kiteman is one of the series’ most wholesome characters, “Hell yeah” is practically his catchphrase. He repeats it multiple times throughout the show, and every version has a different take on how he says it. This allows such a simple line to be funny each time, as the phrase can be made in response to pretty much any situation.

Often the funniest times he says it is when Poison Ivy shows him some affection, as his catchphrase becomes very trembly and breathy, as if he can’t believe that she is being nice to him. While the couple didn’t last, they were very cute and very funny together, which was epitomized by this line.

The Joker, “The Final Joke”

“Do You Take Me For A Basic B*tch?”

The Joker has some incredible one-liners in this show, and part of the reason why they’re all so funny is that they seem quite out of place for the Joker to say. When he is fighting Harley in the season one finale, Harley asks him why he doesn’t just kill her, as he instead plans to completely erase her from existence.

The Joker laughs and says this. After the intense fight that both characters just had, it’s incredibly funny to hear, and the fact that the Joker is saying something that an average thirty-year-old woman might say is enough to make any audience member laugh out loud.

Poison Ivy, “Bachelorette”

“You’re Gonna Have To Take That Sh*t Up With The Cobb Squad!”

Poison Ivy’s bachelorette party is one of the funniest episodes in the series, and “The Cobb Squad” is partly why. After getting cobb salads with Catwoman, Ivy suggests that her bridal party should be called that, and that they should all get matching tattoos of this name. However, when she epically voices her tattoo during a battle with Lex Luthor, she comes to find that no one else has got one.

This situation is comical because Poison Ivy is generally very antisocial, so the idea that only she would get a group tattoo hilariously juxtaposes her character. The tattoo also looks very funny.
