One of the most talked-about and beloved aspects of Harry Potter in the zeitgeist of the Wizarding World fandom is the Hogwarts Houses. Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin have loyal members all over the world with the distinct traits and qualities of them drawing people in and resonating with them. The same goes for the twelve signs of the zodiac within the pop culture world.

Despite its mainstream evil reputation, Slytherin is a house many fans loyally follow with many traits to both love and hate about them. In terms of the zodiac, another sign with traits to both love and hate is the Gemini, which has some significant similarities, and big differences to Slytherin.

10 Typical – Misunderstood

As mentioned above, Slytherin has gained a notorious reputation for being an evil house, stemming from their production of Dark Witches and Wizards.

However, this is a very black and white view of the house, which gets massively misunderstood, just like Gemini is. With a personality that can switch on a dime, Gemini has garnered a reputation for being two-faced, and even cruel and cold.

9 Not – Air, Not Water

Every Hogwarts House gets represented by a different animal, as well as a separate element, something also real of the signs of the zodiac who have their grouped element, and representative sign.

Slytherin and Gemini are very different in that regard. Gemini is a part of the group of air signs of spring alongside Libra and Aquarius. While Slytherin, has the element of water, a more winter feeling rather than spring.

8 Typical – Self-Reliant

Slytherin is a house that is very big on lineage, on self-preservation, but even if they are loyal to a family or to their house, they do not need these things to support themselves or keep themselves stimulated.

The very same can get said of Gemini, whose minds are always at work like cogs in a neverending machine. If plans get canceled, the Gemini will entertain themselves easily, they enjoy the company of others but are by no means reliant on it in any way.

7 Not – Represented By Twins

As mentioned earlier, each Hogwarts House and zodiac signs are represented by their unique symbol, usually an animal, with Gemini and Slytherin once again differing in this regard.

While Slytherin is represented by the Snake, perhaps the most obvious pairing of all time, Gemini is represented by twins as one of the few zodiac signs not represented by an animal, representing their dual nature.

6 Typical – Cold

While the two are massively misunderstood, that misunderstanding is rooted in some truth – Slytherin, after all, does produce the most Dark Witches and Wizards – as both do have an undeniable cold streak to them.

Slytherins are very self-protecting, and do not necessarily seek out many different friends and are incredibly secretive, giving them an air of coldness to them. As for Gemini, they are not a very sentimental sign, often uncaring of emotions, that combined with their typically flighty nature makes them come across as very cold.

5 Not – Outgoing

Slytherin is pretty much built on the qualities of being cunning, secretive, and summed up by their representative animal of the Snake; they are very much to themselves.

Gemini, however, while they do come across as cold, are still extremely outgoing. While they do not have much interest in sentimentality, they are always interested in social situations, in being erratic and bouncing from one place to the next, getting the most out of however much attention they can give to that one moment before moving onto the next.

4 Typical – Intelligence

Ravenclaw is the quintessential house of intelligence in the Wizarding World, but that does not mean other houses are not, especially in more unique ways. That is the Slytherin and is also the Gemini.

Slytherin’s are cunning, going through a calm thought process before proceeding, always with a sharp mind and a sharp tongue, holding both an academic and a more informal intelligence. The same can get said about Gemini, who is always learning from the people they quaint themselves with, more often than not using people for knowledge rather than anything else with a racing mind, a sharp wit, and always having something interesting to say.

3 Not – Switching Of Personalities

The Gemini getting represented by twins signifies the two personalities of the sign that can so quickly switch between one another, perhaps being fun and energetic one moment, to solemn and restless the other.

This is something a Slytherin is not known for. While secretive and cunning, a Slytherin is calm and collected in their thoughts and does not undergo an instantaneous and drastic personality switch, they are who they are and selectively reveal themselves to people.

2 Typical – Sharp & Cunning

One of the most crucial traits of a Slytherin is the cunning nature of them, and how sharp they are both in mind and tongue. They are so quick off the mark and can gain much information from people, just like a Gemini.

A Gemini can detach themselves emotionally from just about any situation and can accumulate an insane amount of knowledge from people. They are quick-witted and have a sharp, if not energetic mind, that makes them use this knowledge how they see fit, not unlike a Slytherin, who, while secretive, will use information and knowledge in their unique way from a Gemini.

1 Not – Impulsive

However, perhaps the most significant difference between the two is that Slytherin is by no means impulsive. In fact, Slytherins often criticize Gryffindors for their recklessness and unnecessary heroics as they dive headfirst into situations without thought.

Gemini, however, is incredibly impulsive. Not only will they change their mind at the drop of a hat, but they also will make reckless and irresponsible decisions because of this, leading them into trouble and consequences they did not consider, consequences a Slytherin would have already considered.
